Melisande Karr
Species
Human
Appearance
Melisande is a tall, broad-shouldered human woman whose stillness feels heavier than armor. Her skin is weathered by iron dust and underground damp, with fine pale scars crossing her knuckles and throat. She moves with deliberate economy, placing each foot as though listening for a hollow place beneath the floor. Her face is severe but not cruel, framed by hair gone prematurely silver at the temples. The unexpected softness is in her hands, which are careful and almost tender when she touches a bell, a child's shoulder, or a cracked worker's helmet. She leaves behind the impression of cold stone warmed from within, along with the faint metallic taste of thunder in the air.
“Her voice is low, clear, and resonant, with a patient cadence that makes every word sound weighed before it leaves her mouth. She never shouts.”

Distinguishing Features
Sleepless gray eyes with red veins that never quite fade
A thin scar circling her throat from a broken bell cable
Iron filings embedded beneath the skin of her right palm
A silver tuning fork worn at her collar
A habit of tilting her head toward stone whenever distant machinery moves
Voice
“Low, resonant, and eerily calm, carrying the deep vibration of a cathedral bell through every crowded chamber”
Clothing
Heavy stone-colored robes woven with real iron threads, reinforced leather boots, a dark undersash marked with the names of fallen Delvers, and a short mantle clasped by a silver tuning fork
Body Language
Melisande keeps her shoulders square and her hands folded over her tuning fork. She rarely blinks during negotiations. When someone mentions a preventable death, one thumb begins rubbing the edge of her opposite palm until the skin reddens. In moments of private grief, she leans toward walls as though expecting them to speak.
