Orla Fenneck
Commoner
Orla Fenneck
Species
Halfling
Appearance
Orla Fenneck is a compact halfling woman with a weather-bright face, a mass of red curls, and amber eyes that seem to inspect everything for hidden lettering. Her curls are springy and unruly, but the hair at her temples has gone silver in two sharp streaks, like candle smoke caught in a breeze. She moves with quick, economical steps, leaning forward as though the world is an inscription she might miss if she walks too slowly. Her fingers are permanently darkened by charcoal, and the nails of her left hand are ridged from years of scraping mortar and stone. She leaves an impression of warmth and harmless fussiness, yet there is something unsettling in how still she becomes when she finds a mark. The unexpected contradiction is that her clothes are always meticulously mended and arranged, while her hair looks as if it has just survived a small explosion.
“Soft-spoken and precise, with a dry local accent. Orla's voice is usually gentle, but it gains a clipped authority when she discusses measurements, inscriptions, or official reports.”

Distinguishing Features
Amber eyes with tiny dark flecks resembling grains of wet sand.
Two silver streaks in her red curls.
Charcoal permanently embedded in the creases of both palms.
A faint crescent scar beneath her chin from the flood that took Pell.
A brass port authority token bearing a name that is not hers.
Voice
“A low, careful contralto with a faint rasp, like paper dragged over rough stone. Her laugh is surprisingly loud and brief, while her whispered theories sound almost like prayers.”
Clothing
A moss-green wool coat with numerous hidden pockets, a russet waistcoat, patched brown trousers, thick gray stockings, and waterproof black boots. She wears a copper token from the port authority on a cord around her neck, though it was issued to her brother. Her charcoal case is bound in oilskin and secured with three brass clasps.
Body Language
Orla keeps one hand near her charcoal case and constantly rubs her thumb against a smooth brass clasp. When listening, she tilts her head as if hearing water behind a wall. During arguments, she becomes unnaturally motionless, with her amber eyes fixed on the speaker's mouth.
