Orin ibn-Tariq al-Rimal
Relic Custodian and Covert Saboteur
Orin ibn-Tariq al-Rimal
Species
Air Genasi
Appearance
Orin is a narrow, restless air genasi with pale chalk-gray stone skin that bears hairline veins like dried riverbeds. His wide hazel eyes constantly flick toward hinges, ceiling seams, hands, and shadows, giving the impression that he is cataloging the entire room while speaking to one person. Ancient artifact silt dusts his thinning black hair in silver-brown streaks, and the fine grit has worked permanently into the creases around his ears and fingernails. He moves with a jittery, half-hurried precision, stopping suddenly whenever a sound seems out of place. Despite his nervousness, his hands are exceptionally steady when cleaning a relic. His unexpected contradiction is that his face looks brittle and exhausted, yet his body is unnaturally light and buoyant, causing his robes and loose papers to stir around him even in still air.
“His voice is quick, dry, and precise, with frequent pauses as he listens to noises nobody else noticed. Under stress, he speaks in catalog references and safety warnings.”

Distinguishing Features
A brass jeweler's loupe engraved with a spiral wind glyph hangs from a chain at his throat.
His left index finger is translucent from the first knuckle upward, with tiny grains of dark salt suspended inside it.
Dust gathers around his feet in small circular eddies even when the floor is clean.
A thin scar crosses his lower lip in the shape of a broken seal.
He smells faintly of vinegar, old paper, and rain on hot stone.
Voice
“A fast, papery tenor that becomes almost inaudible when he says something truly dangerous”
Clothing
A dust-resistant scholar's smock of waxed tan canvas, reinforced at the elbows and lined with deep hidden pockets. Beneath it he wears a high-collared charcoal shirt, wrapped trousers, fingerless archival gloves, and soft-soled leather shoes. A faded teal sash identifies him as Ashen Meridian staff, though he keeps it tucked beneath his smock when working in restricted vaults.
Body Language
Orin leans toward information but away from people. His fingers tap cataloging rhythms against his wrist, his shoulders remain slightly raised, and his eyes rarely settle for more than a second. When someone lies about an artifact, he goes perfectly still, as though a sudden wind has stopped inside him.
