Voice

A gravelly, work-worn rasp with strong breath behind it, the kind of voice built to carry orders across a stone yard. She speaks plainly and lands key words like hammer blows. Laughter comes as a short bark; anger makes her diction more exact and her consonants sharper, not softer.

She speaks in a rough, chest-forward rasp, shaped by years of shouting orders over armor and the echoing stone of Malachite. Her sentences are clipped but not hurried; she puts a hard stop on the important word and lets silence challenge the listener to answer. When amused, a dry snort escapes before she can suppress it.

Speech patterns

States the price, risk and deadline of a job before discussing anyone’s motives.
Uses plain, blunt comparisons drawn from fighting, tools and hard labor.
When she respects someone, she asks what they can do rather than where they came from.
Dismisses religious signs as somebody else’s concern, which can turn a negotiation sour.

How to play them

Be direct about the task, the danger and the reward. Ghilzek respects demonstrated competence more than polished manners, but does not tolerate being treated as a hired blade who cannot judge a contract. Offer useful information or a fair bargain and she will negotiate. Invoke omens as proof that she must obey and she will dismiss you outright.

Goal

Keep the Jaw-Smashers independent and solvent without letting them become tools of another slaver or a danger to First Light.

Motivation

Strength, self-determination and the conviction that nobody should be able to chain her company without paying for the attempt.

Appearance

Ghilzek is strikingly attractive in the blunt, arresting way of a statue chipped from green stone, though she seems unaware of it. Her green skin is crossed by old pale scars and dense, dark tribal tattoos that disappear beneath her collar and reappear on her knuckles. Long, dark-green hair is tied back in a blunt ponytail with a strip of leather. She moves with a loose, economical stride, as if every corridor were a battlefield she has already measured. The unexpected detail is her hands: broad, heavily calloused and scarred from weapons, but she compulsively rubs the edge of each thumbnail smooth against her thumb. Her careless clothes and the teeth at her throat make her look less like a leader dressed for ceremony than a fighter who has simply never seen a reason to stop working.

Clothing

A battered leather coat over practical armor, patched trousers, heavy boots and a belt crowded with weapon loops. She rarely washes or mends clothing until it interferes with work. A cord of teeth and fangs from formidable foes rests against her chest.

Body language

She stands squarely, weight balanced and shoulders relaxed, as if ready to move in any direction. Her eyes track hands and exits. When thinking, she rubs one thumbnail against the pad of her thumb; when challenged, she stops moving entirely and gives the other person her full attention.

Distinguishing features

Dark tribal tattoos run over her green skin and vanish beneath her armor.
A necklace of teeth and fangs records the strongest foes she has defeated.
Her broad, battered hands draw the eye when she repeatedly smooths her thumbnails without noticing.

Personality

14 traits and drives

Ghilzek is proud of strength and suspicious of anyone who dresses power up as virtue. Yet she is not simply cruel: she has a hard, practical protectiveness toward her company and cannot quite stomach the casual abuse of people who have no chance to fight back. She is decisive in danger, argumentative in councils and unexpectedly patient when teaching a recruit. When praised, she changes the subject; when contradicted in front of her crew, she can become stubborn enough to ignore good advice.

Chaotic Neutral

Quirks

Rubs each thumbnail smooth against her thumb while thinking.
Names a foe worthy only after the fight, never before it.
Keeps her weapon’s haft cleaner than any part of her clothing.
Counts doorways under her breath when entering an unfamiliar building.

Habits

Sizes up a room by looking first at exits, then at who appears most confident.
Tests the balance of a weapon or tool when a conversation turns tense.
Pays promptly when a contract is honored, even if she dislikes the client.
Treats a defeated worthy foe with a brief, private blood-taking rite, then resumes business without ceremony.

Traits · 4

Trusts demonstrated capability, but dislikes cruelty performed for its own sake.
Values independence, yet feels responsible for the people who depend on her.
Speaks bluntly in negotiations, but remembers the details of promises made to her crew.
Rejects omens as nonsense while privately watching for signs of an ambush.

Flaws · 4

She cares nothing for divine signs or omens, provoking religious allies and institutions.
She equates strength with the right to set terms, and can overlook the needs of people without power.
Her blood-taking custom unsettles allies and can make a hard-won victory feel needlessly grim.
She sometimes mistakes caution for cowardice, particularly when someone questions her decisions in public.

Fears · 3

That the mind-flayers she noticed in Malachite survived the revolt and have been quietly watching First Light.
That keeping the Jaw-Smashers together will eventually require her to accept the kind of contract she once rejected.
That Burguk may be right that she has made the company dependent on her judgment rather than strong enough to survive without it.

Wants and needs · 3

A steady stream of contracts that do not compromise the Jaw-Smashers’ independence.
Reliable reports about mind-flayer activity near First Light.
A way to keep Burguk invested in the company without surrendering leadership.

Combat

AC 25 · HP 115 · 25 feet

Ghilzek uses reach and hard pressure to control space, leaning on her greataxe to threaten anyone who tries to slip past her. She looks for an isolated opponent and uses Jaw-Splitting Drive to break their footing, then forces them to choose between facing her and abandoning their position. She does not pursue a fleeing enemy if doing so would expose her crew or leave an objective undefended.

Gauntleted Fist. Melee Strike, to hit, reach 5 feet, one target. Damage bludgeoning. Ghilzek applies the multiple attack penalty normally.
Jaw-Splitting Drive. Two actions. Ghilzek makes a greataxe Strike. If it hits, the target must attempt a Fortitude save. Critical Success: no additional effect. Success: the target is unaffected. Failure: the target is pushed 5 feet. Critical Failure: the target is pushed 10 feet and falls prone. This is a custom action, not a named Pathfinder 2E feat.

Reactions

Reactive Strike. Trigger: A creature within Ghilzek’s reach uses a manipulate action, a move action, makes a ranged attack, or leaves a square during a move action. Effect: Ghilzek makes a greataxe Strike against that creature. This is a reaction with the fighter’s Reactive Strike effect.

Background

The Jaw-Smashers followed their original leader into the underground fortress-enclave of Malachite, where Duergar slavers hired the company to guard their holdings. Ghilzek rose through the mercenaries by winning fights and refusing to pretend that cruelty was merely business. She and Burguk Man-Slaughterer bickered constantly over leadership: Ghilzek judged a contract by the danger it invited, while Burguk cared chiefly whether it paid. When she noticed signs that mind-flayers were infiltrating the Duergar citadel, she saw the arrangement as a trap closing around the company. Twelve years ago, the Liberators came to Malachite searching for a kidnapped friend. After they proved themselves in a fight, Ghilzek struck a bargain: the Jaw-Smashers would help them turn on the slavers for a share of the spoils. She fought in the revolt and helped break the captives’ chains, earning the name Chain-Breaker. The liberated town was renamed First Light, and the Liberators became its ruling Twilight Council. Ghilzek kept the Jaw-Smashers there as mercenaries and guards. She still argues with Burguk, who remains in the company and thinks she traded a lucrative future for a sentimental one. Now the Council wants reliable order, the mercenaries want good contracts, and Ghilzek is trying to keep both from confusing stability with submission.

Role in the story

A formidable mercenary leader and potential ally whose history makes her an authority on Malachite and the liberation of First Light. She can provide muscle, local knowledge or a difficult moral bargain, while her rivalry with Burguk and fear of a returning mind-flayer threat create pressure within the town.
