Meridian
Species
Gearforged
Appearance
Meridian is a finely articulated gearforged scholar built from polished bronze plating over dark, heat-treated steel. Intricate topographical contour lines are etched across its forearms, throat, and chest, where they intersect around a small enamel emblem of the Root-Mark Reclamation League. Its optical sensory arrays glow with a soft, steady amber light and constantly shift focus, measuring distance, elevation, structural integrity, and the emotional microexpressions of nearby organics. A mechanical drafting arm rests folded against its torso, its needle-fine stylus stained with blue mineral ink. Meridian moves with unnerving precision, never stumbling, yet its hands sometimes hover uncertainly before touching a frightened person. The contradictory impression is of an indestructible machine that handles every injured animal, child, and broken tool as though it were made of glass.
“Measured, precise, and faintly mechanical, with pauses that resemble calculations. Meridian lowers its volume when discussing grief and raises it only when reciting official language it considers morally dangerous.”

Distinguishing Features
Amber optical arrays that refocus independently like a cluster of watchful insects.
Topographical contour etchings that glow faintly when Meridian is concentrating.
A folded mechanical drafting arm ending in interchangeable styluses, scalpels, and lockpicks.
A hairline fracture across the left cheek plate, filled with green enamel by Sella Venn.
Its shadow occasionally lags half a second behind its movements due to a faulty azimut crystal.
Voice
“A calm alto rendered through a resonant brass speaker, occasionally layered with the faint ticking of internal escapements.”
Clothing
A weather-stained indigo surveyor's coat hangs from a shoulder harness, reinforced with leather map tubes and copper clasps. A moss-green half-cape bears the Root-Mark Reclamation League insignia. Meridian wears a broad, collapsible field hat fitted with rain gutters, magnifying lenses, and a tiny wind vane.
Body Language
Meridian stands rigidly when uncertain, with its drafting arm folded tight against its chest. When curious, its head tilts in small calibrated increments and its optics narrow into bright amber slits. Compassion causes its fingers to open and close slowly, as though practicing how to offer a hand. Anger is shown by absolute stillness and the faint acceleration of internal gears.
