Zeshubi McDougall
Military Scout and Informant
Zeshubi McDougall
Species
Mountain Dwarf
Appearance
Zeshubi McDougall is a broad, weathered dwarf with the compact strength of someone shaped by years of marching rather than smithing. Her umber skin is crossed by pale mineral scars that glitter faintly when damp. Her beard is braided into four short ropes, each stiffened with wax and threaded with tiny brass signal bells, though she keeps the bells wrapped in cloth while on duty. She moves with deliberate economy, placing each boot as if the floor might collapse beneath it. Her face is stern at first glance, but one corner of her mouth is permanently lifted in what looks almost like a secret smile. Unexpectedly, her hands are extraordinarily gentle, with the careful touch of a clockmaker or nurse.
“Measured and low, with a calm northern dwarven cadence. She pauses before important nouns, as if setting each fact down where it cannot be moved.”

Distinguishing Features
A crescent-shaped scar beneath her right eye, caused by a spring-loaded automaton needle.
Four beard braids fitted with concealed signal bells.
A brass military whistle engraved with the names of 19 soldiers who never returned from a mountain survey.
Mineral dust beneath her fingernails that glows faintly blue in complete darkness.
A habit of smiling at precisely the wrong moments, especially while describing terrible news.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry, steady warmth, like a kettle beginning to boil in a stone kitchen. When angry, she becomes quieter rather than louder.”
Clothing
A charcoal-gray reserve coat reinforced with leather panels, a quilted brown under-jacket, iron-toed boots, and a red wool sash marked with the stitched numeral five. Her gloves are mismatched, one military issue and one soft green glove knitted by her niece.
Body Language
Her posture is square and disciplined, but she constantly rubs the first knuckle of her left hand when worried. During conversation, she angles herself so that no one stands directly behind her. When she trusts someone, she briefly touches two fingers to their wrist, a reserve sign meaning, 'I have your position.'
