Tarek al-Hazim
Relic-smith Engineer
Tarek al-Hazim
Species
Human
Appearance
Tarek is a wiry, broad-shouldered man with the compact density of someone built by years of lifting tools, hauling bellows, and bracing against machinery. Soot has permanently darkened the skin of his forearms and hands into a charcoal-gray map of burns, while tiny copper-colored scars ladder across his knuckles. His wild hazel eyes glare through horn-rimmed protective spectacles whose lenses are cracked but painstakingly polished. Unruly black hair rises around his head like singed brush, glittering with metallic ash. He moves with a dangerous, impatient half-lurch, always leaning toward the nearest problem as though the air itself were pulling him forward. Despite his furnace-scarred appearance, his hands are astonishingly gentle when handling a wounded creature or a delicate relic.
“Rapid, precise, and peppered with technical comparisons. Tarek speaks as though every conversation is a workshop demonstration, accelerating when inspired and dropping to a low, dangerous murmur when discussing the Sultanate.”

Distinguishing Features
A heavily scorched prosthetic left gauntlet with glowing amber regulator tubes.
Protective horn-rimmed spectacles with one lens repaired by wire and resin.
Charcoal-black burn staining across both forearms and hands.
A missing left index finger beneath the prosthetic assembly.
A faint metallic ringing follows his movements because small tools and loose components are sewn into his apron.
His shadow sometimes appears to flicker like furnace flame when the Blackwell is active.
Voice
“A gravelly baritone roughened by smoke, with sudden bright bursts of laughter and the habit of pronouncing technical terms as though they are sacred names.”
Clothing
A heavy fire-resistant leather smithing apron hangs over a sweat-stained scholar's tunic covered in diagrams, grease marks, and stitched repairs. He wears thick iron-soled boots, a tool belt crowded with brass instruments, fingerless heat gloves, and a copper throat guard engraved with obsolete engineering symbols.
Body Language
Tarek leans close when listening, squints through his spectacles when calculating, and drums the fingers of his prosthetic gauntlet in sequences that resemble machine rhythms. His shoulders tense whenever anyone mentions the Sultanate. When offering kindness, he removes his spectacles and lowers his head so his scarred face looks less imposing.
