Brann Coilwright
Species
Dwarf
Appearance
Brann Coilwright is a stout, heavily scarred dwarf whose body seems built from compacted iron and old accidents. His soot-black beard spreads in a wild fan across his chest, its ends singed into stiff, uneven curls from repeated encounters with high-voltage aether. Pale electrical burns cross his knuckles, throat, and left cheek in branching patterns that resemble frost on glass. He moves with a peculiar combination of lumbering weight and precise timing, always stepping between machinery's pulses rather than against them. His face is severe at first glance, but his eyes remain intensely attentive, as though every wall and pipe is speaking. The unexpected contradiction is his hands: despite their cracked calluses and missing fingertips, they perform delicate repairs with the gentleness of a jeweler handling a bird egg.
“His voice is a low, gravelly baritone with a faint metallic overtone, as if spoken through a resonant pipe. He pauses to listen between sentences and occasionally hums a note before answering.”

Distinguishing Features
Branching lightning scars across the left cheek and throat.
A missing tip on the right index finger, replaced with a fitted brass cap used for testing current.
Beard ends singed into rigid black curls.
A set of colored tuning forks worn like charms across his chest.
A rhythmic tapping habit that changes depending on his mood.
A faint smell of soot, hot copper, and cedar oil clings to him.
Voice
“A low, gravelly baritone with a metallic resonance, usually measured and deliberate, becoming hushed and intensely precise when he believes a machine is communicating.”
Clothing
A grease-stained leather technician's jerkin worn over reinforced mail, thick charcoal trousers, copper-toed work boots, insulated gloves with several repaired fingertips, a weatherproof hooded mantle, and a heavy tool belt crowded with acoustic diagnostic probes, resonance tuning forks, coils of wire, chalk, wax, and miniature brass clamps.
Body Language
Brann leans toward sources of sound, often closing one eye while listening. His fingers tap coded rhythms on tables, railings, armor, and occasionally another person's shoulder. When angry, he becomes unnaturally still except for a single tapping thumb. When a machine behaves correctly, his shoulders loosen and his beard trembles with a pleased, almost paternal pride.
