Vaelen Frost-Eye

Vaelen Frost-Eye
Species
Human
Appearance
Vaelen Frost-Eye is a weather-beaten human with a narrow, watchful face and a stillness that feels more deliberate than calm. His cold blue eyes rarely settle on a person's face. They measure hands, exits, boot leather, and who is pretending not to listen. His teeth are unusually square and heavily worn at the front, a result of years spent biting sealing cord and brass wire. When he laughs, which is rare, he shows them all at once in a dry, almost wolfish grin. His skin carries the red-brown texture of a man shaped by salt wind and furnace smoke, while his hands are smooth in the palms and callused along the fingertips from cipher work. He walks with a faint limp that vanishes whenever he thinks someone is watching. The unexpected contradiction is his immaculate posture and delicate habit of smelling flowers before entering a room, despite dressing and moving like a campaign veteran.
“His speech is quiet, precise, and faintly breathy, with long pauses before important words. He uses the clipped vocabulary of military reports softened by the polished courtesy of a harbor broker.”

Distinguishing Features
His front teeth are square and visibly worn, and he bites through sealing cord when thinking.
He pauses after inhaling through his nose before every deliberate answer.
His silver-capped cane contains a narrow blade and is marked with tiny ship-route coordinates.
He smells flowers before entering unfamiliar rooms, even in smoke-choked districts.
His limp appears only when he wants others to underestimate his mobility.
Voice
“Low and dry, with a salt-roughened rasp beneath careful diction. Before speaking, he inhales slowly through his nose and makes a faint clicking sound with his tongue against his worn front teeth.”
Clothing
A dark, fur-lined sea-captain's coat worn over blackened brigandine armor, with basalt-gray trousers, soft-soled riding boots, a smoke-red scarf, and gloves stitched with hidden pockets. His coat smells faintly of cedar oil, salt, and hot iron.
Body Language
Vaelen stands with his weight balanced over the balls of his feet, one hand resting lightly on the cane and the other near his cipher-box. Before speaking, he draws a slow breath through his nose and taps the cane's silver cap twice against the floor. He tilts his head toward voices rather than turning fully, as if preserving a second line of sight. When genuinely angry, he stops blinking.
