Skitch Slag-Scraper
Species
Cinderclaw
Appearance
Skitch is a compact Cinderclaw with charcoal scales that shine like wet river stones under furnace light. Sulfur-dyed spines run from his brow to the base of his tail, their yellow tips faded by years of salt, soot, and drain water. His jaw is broad for his kind, and when he laughs, blunt little teeth show in an uneven row, giving his grin the warmth of a cracked shovel handle. He breathes through a narrow throat pouch that clicks softly on each exhale, like cooling metal. When calm, he moves in quick, economical bursts. When rattled, his breathing becomes a rapid flutter and his voice climbs into a startlingly gentle whisper. The contradictory impression is immediate: he looks built for crawling through slag and yet handles fragile paper, eggshell seals, and frightened children with painstaking delicacy.
“Fast, practical, and textured by a soft clicking exhale. Skitch's words come out bright and energetic when he is confident, but collapse into a careful whisper when fear reaches him.”

Distinguishing Features
A throat pouch clicks on every exhale, becoming a rapid flutter when he is frightened.
His sulfur-dyed spines fade from yellow to gray at the tips, as if dipped in ash.
He habitually tastes rainwater, seawater, and runoff to identify where it has traveled.
His lower jaw is unusually broad, making his tired smiles look almost cheerful.
He carries a tiny brass bell with no clapper, used to mark safe routes for children.
Voice
“A quick, gravelly tenor with a faint metallic click at the end of each breath. When angry, he becomes quieter rather than louder. When genuinely amused, his laugh breaks into two chirps and a wet cough.”
Clothing
A grease-stained leather harness crosses his chest and hips, crowded with scrapers, waxed cords, folding hooks, chalk tubes, and sealed union leaflets. He wears patched charcoal trousers, soft-soled harbor wraps, a rust-red scarf, and a dented brass inspection mask hanging at his throat.
Body Language
Skitch leans forward as though the world is always trying to slide away beneath him. His claws tap metal surfaces to test their resonance. He keeps one hand near a scraper and the other near whichever person seems most vulnerable. His tail curls tightly around his ankle when he is lying.
