Brucz Hegvár

Brucz Hegvár
Species
Deep Gnome
Appearance
Brucz is a compact deep gnome with the dense, carefully balanced posture of someone who has spent half his life working beneath collapsing ceilings. His skin is slate-brown and dry at the knuckles, with pale mineral dust permanently settled in the creases of his hands. His beard is clipped close around the mouth but left long beneath the jaw, where it has been braided with three dull copper rings and a tiny clay bead. He moves with startling quietness, placing each foot as though testing a floor before trusting it. Within a minute of meeting him, people notice that he rarely looks at faces. His eyes travel instead to lintels, hearthstones, roof joints, door hinges, and the spaces behind furniture. The contradiction is that this intensely cautious man laughs loudly and without embarrassment, throwing his head back like a tavern singer whenever something genuinely delights him.
“Low, precise, and mildly gravelly, with clipped sentences that become unexpectedly poetic when he describes stone, fire, or the dead. He pronounces names carefully and dislikes being interrupted.”

Distinguishing Features
Three copper rings and a clay bead are braided into his beard.
His palms are permanently stippled with pale mineral flecks that glitter under torchlight.
He smells faintly of lamp oil, wet stone, and bitterroot tea.
He pauses beneath doorways to touch the lintel with two fingers.
His laugh is unexpectedly huge, warm, and completely at odds with his quiet movements.
Voice
“A dry, steady baritone with a faint rasp, like pebbles shifting in a wooden cup. His laughter is startlingly loud and rich.”
Clothing
A soot-gray work coat reinforced with stitched leather squares, moss-green trousers tucked into soft mining boots, a copper-buckled harness carrying tools, and a faded blue scarf wrapped twice around his neck. His clothing is meticulously mended but never clean.
Body Language
He keeps one hand near a support, wall, or piece of furniture and tilts his head slightly when listening for vibrations. When angry, he becomes perfectly still rather than more animated. When amused, his shoulders shake before the laugh arrives.
