Thora Stone-Pillar
Species
Dwarf
Appearance
A stout dwarf woman with the compact density of a quarry rammer, Thora appears built less for height than for resisting impact. Her braided chestnut hair is threaded with silver and tied with tiny numbered brass tags, each marking a tunnel, mine, or deceased colleague. Her hazel eyes are warm when she looks at a person, but within seconds they drift to lintels, floor seams, window hinges, and the weight-bearing points of a room. Her hands are broad, grease-darkened, and heavily callused, yet she handles gold dust and glassware with jeweler's delicacy. She walks with a measured, slightly rocking gait that resembles a pendulum finding true vertical. The unexpected contradiction is her immaculate grooming: although her clothes are stained by work, her beard-like sideburn braids, nails, and spectacles are maintained with almost ceremonial precision. She leaves behind the impression of a kindly grandmother who has already calculated how many tons of stone would crush everyone present.
“Quiet, measured, and reassuring, with a low contralto rasp softened by careful diction. She speaks in exact quantities and concrete comparisons, rarely raising her volume.”

Distinguishing Features
A brass-bound jeweler's loupe is permanently strapped over her left eye, though she removes it only for sleep and funerals.
Her braids are secured with numbered brass tags representing tunnels and mines she has personally surveyed.
Her fingertips are permanently darkened by graphite, soot, and mineral salts despite repeated washing.
She taps stone, glass, and metal objects to hear their density before trusting them.
She moves with a slow pendulum-like rocking gait that makes her seem to be constantly checking whether the world is level.
Voice
“A low, patient contralto with a smoky rasp, like warm water moving through iron pipes. She rarely raises her voice, but when she does, it carries through stone and machinery with startling force.”
Clothing
A heavy canvas work tunic beneath a reinforced leather smithing apron lined with acid-resistant pockets, thick steel-toed boots, copper riveted gloves, a soot-marked tool belt, and a brass-bound jeweler's loupe permanently strapped over her left eye.
Body Language
Thora stands squarely, plants both boots before speaking, and keeps one hand near a wall or table edge. In conversation she leans forward with grandmotherly attention, but when discussing danger her head tilts toward the floor as if listening through several layers of stone.
