Appearance
Kellan Rost is a powerfully built human man shaped by altitude, cold spray, and years of hauling emergency chains by hand. His wind-burned face is broad across the cheekbones, with a broken nose that healed slightly crooked and sharp gray eyes that seem to measure every bolt, worker, and escape route in the gorge. His unruly sand-colored hair is usually full of grit and flattened on one side by his helmet. He wears a confident, easy grin that rarely reaches his restless eyes. He moves with surprising speed for his size, always leaning forward as if the next disaster has already begun. The unexpected contradiction is his hands: scarred, callused, and strong enough to bend a bent lever, yet he keeps their nails meticulously clean and polished with clear lacquer, a habit learned from his late mother, who believed a captain should never look defeated by the work.
“His voice is a rough baritone that carries over machinery without becoming a shout. He speaks quickly when issuing orders, clips sentences short when angry, and becomes unexpectedly quiet when discussing the dead.”

Distinguishing Features
A crooked, repeatedly broken nose.
Gray eyes with a restless, almost feverish brightness.
A brass master-whistle worn on a thick chain around his neck.
A narrow scar running from his right ear to the corner of his mouth.
Clean, lacquered fingernails contrasting with his heavily scarred hands.
A faded green Warden tattoo wrapped around his left wrist, partly burned away after the Black Throat Flood.
Voice
“A carrying rough baritone with the texture of gravel in a brass pipe. Even when speaking softly, Kellan sounds as though he expects wind, water, and machinery to compete with him.”
Clothing
A heavy leather doublet beneath a salt-rimed canvas coat, reinforced with brass shoulder guards, riveted elbow plates, fingerless gloves, a webbing harness, and steel-toed boots designed for slick high-altitude walkways. His coat bears faded green Warden chevrons and a red repair patch sewn over the heart.
Body Language
Kellan stands with his feet wide and knees slightly bent, as if the floor might tilt. He points with two fingers, grips railings while thinking, and frequently scans overhead braces. When angry, he becomes very still except for one thumb rubbing the whistle chain. When afraid, he smiles broadly and starts assigning tasks.
