Appearance
Orven has a feminine, finely structured face that makes his usual grumpy expression look almost theatrical: narrow brows drawn together, soft cheeks, and a mouth perpetually set as if someone has just criticized his composition. His ice-blue eyes are startling against his short black hair, which he cuts himself with uneven, practical snips. He moves with a careful leftward lean, favoring his paint-splattered left hip, yet his hands are unnervingly still whenever he is observing someone. Within a minute of meeting him, most people notice the small brass frame hanging from a cord at his throat. It contains no portrait, only a square of blank linen worn smooth where his thumb repeatedly rubs it. The unexpected contradiction is that his hands, stained and callused from years of work, are extraordinarily gentle when touching fragile objects or frightened people.
“Low, dry, and slightly hoarse, with clipped sentences that become unexpectedly lyrical when he discusses color. He speaks faster when excited, then pretends he was not excited.”

Distinguishing Features
Ice-blue eyes that seem paler when he is angry.
A brass picture frame worn smooth along its lower edge from constant rubbing.
Uneven, self-cut black hair and pigment permanently caught beneath his fingernails.
A red thread sewn into the inner seam of his right sleeve.
A feminine face paired with a consistently severe, unimpressed expression.
Voice
“A low, dry baritone with a tired rasp. His voice becomes unexpectedly gentle when speaking to children, animals, or damaged artwork.”
Clothing
A faded charcoal smock worn over a high-collared russet shirt, dark trousers tucked into soft leather boots, and a patched oilskin half-cloak. His cuffs are stiff with old pigment. A red thread is sewn into the inside seam of his right sleeve, a private reminder of the name he chose for himself.
Body Language
Orven stands slightly sideways, keeping his left hip away from strangers and his painting hand free. He taps the brass frame at his throat when lying, rubs his thumb over its blank linen when worried, and tilts his head like a critic examining a crooked hanging whenever someone speaks foolishly.
