Appearance
Vespera Morn is a powerfully built dwarf woman whose presence feels less like meeting a person and more like standing before a fortress that has decided to speak. Her weathered skin is ridged and dry from years of badland wind, forge smoke, and winter campaigns, with fine lines gathered around her eyes like careful inkwork. Her deep-set grey eyes remain unnervingly still while everything else moves. Her hands are broad, square, and permanently darkened at the knuckles by iron dust, with thickened fingertips that can still tie a recruit's boot laces faster than most young soldiers. She walks with a measured, heel-first stride that makes every step seem inspected before it lands. The unexpected contradiction is her smile, which is surprisingly soft and almost girlish when she hears a good joke or sees frightened recruits sharing food.
“Low, dry, and measured, with the clipped cadence of a drill command softened by an old teacher's patience. She pauses before names, especially the names of the dead.”

Distinguishing Features
Her hands are heavily callused and permanently stained with fine iron dust, even after washing.
A narrow strip of red cloth is braided into her military knot, one thread for each of the seven survivors from the founding massacre.
She carries a small slate tally hidden inside her coat and touches it whenever someone claims an atrocity is ancient history.
Her war pick has no crest, jewels, or personal engraving, only a perfectly balanced ashwood haft darkened by years of use.
She moves with deliberate precision, yet can cross a training yard with startling suddenness when a recruit is in danger.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry rasp, like gravel dragged across iron. Her commands are never loud unless distance requires it. Her rare laughter arrives as a sudden bright crack that makes nearby recruits look up in surprise.”
Clothing
A soot-stained coat of scaled mail over sensible charcoal wool garments, reinforced leather belts, heavy steel greaves, fingerless leather gloves, and a faded red drill sash worn beneath her cloak. Her clothing is meticulously repaired but never decorative.
Body Language
She keeps her shoulders square and her chin level, but unconsciously turns her body between vulnerable people and doorways. When listening, she watches hands before faces. Her right thumb repeatedly brushes the worn edge of her war pick's grip whenever someone mentions the old commanders.
