Kareth
Fighter 2 / Druid 2
Kareth
Species
Human
Appearance
Kareth looks less like a druid than a woodsman who has learned to speak for the forest. His face is long and weather-tight, with deep creases at the corners of his mouth and a jaw that works slowly whenever he is deciding whether someone deserves mercy. His teeth are unusually broad and blunt, stained dark by bitterroot tea, and they show whenever he laughs, which is rare enough to feel like a warning. He moves with compact economy, never wasting a step, and turns his whole torso toward injured animals or damaged trees as though greeting them. His clothing hangs poorly on his narrow frame, repeatedly altered with green thread, while his shield is polished, oiled, and cared for with almost ceremonial tenderness. The unexpected softness is in his hands, which are gentle enough to cradle a moth without disturbing its wings.
“His speech is low, deliberate, and practical, with long pauses that make even simple observations sound like judgments. He refers to forests, rivers, and communities as if they possess organs and circulatory systems.”

Distinguishing Features
Broad, blunt teeth darkened by bitterroot tea, visible whenever he laughs or bares his teeth.
A shield whose wood is polished to a warm satin sheen while the rest of his gear is visibly patched and weather-beaten.
Green thread repairs crossing his coat in branching patterns that resemble veins or roots.
A habit of smelling water before drinking it, even when the source is clearly safe.
A faint rhythmic tapping in his left thumb whenever he hears someone lie.
Voice
“A dry baritone with a rasp like bark dragged over stone. His voice becomes almost musical when speaking to animals, children, or Donigi, though he seems ashamed whenever anyone notices.”
Clothing
A patched charcoal wool coat beneath a sleeveless hide vest, both repaired with green and ochre thread. His trousers are tucked into mud-stiff boots, and a faded red cord is tied around his left wrist. His shield receives far more care than the rest of his clothing.
Body Language
Kareth rarely points. He presses two fingers against his sternum, then touches the nearest living thing, as if reminding himself that judgment must begin with connection. When angered, he rubs the rim of his shield with his thumb. When moved, he lowers his head until his beard hides his mouth.
