Appearance

Corcarius is a broad, elderly man with a polished bald crown and a dense grey beard cut square at the jaw. His face is heavy and composed, but his mouth gives him away: his lower incisors are worn almost flat from decades of chewing bitter fennel seeds, and he shows them in a sudden wolfish grin whenever he laughs. He moves slowly only when being watched, favoring deliberate pauses and the careful placement of his cane. When surprised, he becomes startlingly quick, turning with the balance of a much younger duelist. His hands are soft from privilege but marked by dark ink beneath the nails. He smells faintly of cedar oil, red wine, and iron. The unexpected contradiction is that his intimidating, statue-like presence is paired with an almost fussy habit of smoothing crumbs from other people's sleeves.

Height6 feet 1 inch
BuildLarge-framed and thick through the chest and waist, with the grounded weight of a retired wrestler rather than a pampered courtier
EyesDark hazel with amber flecks, usually half-lidded in scrutiny
HairBald with a dense iron-grey beard
SkinWeathered olive with a warm bronze undertone

His voice is low, dry, and measured, with the controlled rhythm of a magistrate reading a sentence. He pronounces names carefully and pauses before numbers.”

Distinguishing Features

A scarlet household key has worn a permanent crescent into the leather grip of his cane.

His flattened lower incisors show whenever he laughs or chews fennel seeds.

The bronze family seal on his right hand is polished bright on the thumb-facing edge from constant rubbing.

His beard is combed into two blunt squared points, making his face resemble a carved civic monument.

He carries a tiny folded paper boat in his breast pocket, made from the last letter written by his dead brother.

Voice

A resonant baritone with a dry rasp at the edges, like a bronze bell that has been handled too often

Clothing

A severe red wool coat with a high collar, black velvet cuffs, and antique bronze clasps shaped like laurel leaves. The left pocket is permanently stretched from carrying a heavy household key. Beneath it he wears a cream linen tunic, dark trousers, polished riding boots, and a narrow bronze chain bearing the Dolence seal.

Body Language

He rests both hands on his cane when listening, thumb rubbing the same worn patch in the red leather grip. When angry, he becomes perfectly still except for a slow movement of his jaw. In private moments of grief, he presses his tongue against his flattened front teeth.
