Bolat is a young human woman with sun-brown skin, broad expressive eyebrows, and a grin that arrives half a second before her jokes. She moves as though every room has a dance floor hidden beneath it, pivoting on the balls of her feet and leaning too close when excited. Her hands are always busy checking the little brass bells sewn into her cuffs. She is brightly dressed and visibly energetic, yet she carries herself with the careful economy of someone who has spent years hauling instruments, crates, and tired friends through bad weather. The unexpected contradiction is that her cheerful presence is physically imposing: she takes up space like a festival drummer, but becomes almost unnervingly quiet when someone mentions home.
