Seth Gell
Civic Investigator
Seth Gell
Species
Human
Appearance
Seth is a narrow-shouldered, weathered man whose posture has been permanently trained into a slight forward lean, as though he is always listening to a bridge settle beneath him. His skin is copper-brown and roughened by windblown grit, river spray, and decades of sun reflected from pale stone. His iron-gray hair is clipped close except for a stubborn ridge above his left temple. He has broad, square teeth with a conspicuous gold filling that flashes whenever his dry humor escapes him. His hands are callused across the palms but strangely delicate at the fingertips, and he moves with careful, economical steps that make even a crowded room seem measured. The unexpected contradiction is his laugh: sudden, warm, and bell-like, entirely at odds with his severe face and audit ledgers.
“Low, measured, and precise, with a faint river-country accent. Seth pauses before important nouns, as if checking their load-bearing capacity.”

Distinguishing Features
A gold filling visible whenever he smiles or laughs.
Fingertips permanently darkened by graphite, lampblack, and iron dust.
A habit of tapping three times on any railing before trusting it.
A brass caliper hanging from his coat chain like a badge of office.
A warm, unexpected laugh that makes his usually severe expression briefly transform.
Voice
“A dry baritone with a patient rhythm, like water moving beneath old stone. When angered, his voice becomes quieter and more formal.”
Clothing
A charcoal wool coat reinforced at the elbows, a faded blue waistcoat, mud-stained trousers, high leather boots, and a brass chain holding three measuring instruments. His coat is lined with old bridge maps, each patched and annotated. He wears no visible armor, only a stiff leather shoulder guard beneath the coat.
Body Language
Seth rests two fingers against nearby stone or wood when thinking. He turns his head slightly before answering difficult questions, as if waiting for a distant creak. In confrontation, he plants his feet like a surveyor setting a tripod and becomes nearly motionless.
