Appearance
Petar is a compact, carefully maintained man whose clothes and hands suggest a person who has never accepted visible disorder as inevitable. He moves with a slight forward lean, not from age but from years spent inspecting sack seams and reading figures by poor light. His eyes rarely meet a speaker's face. They travel instead to doorways, belts, pockets, windows, and the hands of anyone near food. His fingers constantly press and release as if counting invisible sacks. The unexpected thing about him is his softness: he has a round, almost kindly face and a gentle smile that appears at the worst possible moments, especially when he has just discovered someone is lying.
“Quiet, clipped, and courteous. His sentences often end with a number, a condition, or a request for a signature.”

Distinguishing Features
Always wears spotless gloves, even while sleeping if he expects an inspection.
His left eyebrow lifts whenever he smells damp grain, though he may continue speaking as if nothing happened.
Carries a brass counting rod polished bright at the grip and darkened at the ends.
Has a faint dusting of flour permanently settled into the creases around his knuckles.
Leaves a room by backing away from the nearest food store, never turning his back on it first.
Voice
“A dry baritone with a faint rasp, like paper dragged across a wooden desk. He speaks more softly when issuing orders, forcing people to lean closer.”
Clothing
A dark brown council coat brushed clean every morning, a high-collared linen shirt, gray waistcoat, polished but cracked boots, and immaculate pale gloves. He wears a narrow brass seal chain under his collar and keeps a second pair of gloves folded in an inner pocket.
Body Language
He keeps his shoulders square and his elbows close to his ribs, protecting the ledger case beneath his coat. His gloved fingertips tap in groups of five against his thumb. When someone lies, his head tilts slightly toward the nearest sack, cupboard, or pantry, as though the room itself has begun to testify.
