Appearance
Mikkel Vargason is a broad-shouldered human man with the compact, weather-hardened frame of someone who has spent decades hauling wet rope and bracing against rolling decks. His skin is brown-gold and roughened at the hands, forearms, and back of the neck by salt, wind, and tar. His dark auburn hair is worn in a long braid threaded with three tiny brass rings, while the rest is clipped close enough that rain runs cleanly off his scalp. He walks with a rolling sailor's gait even on dry stone, favoring his left side when turning, yet when angered he becomes unnervingly still, as if waiting for the sea to reveal its next current. His most memorable feature is the immaculate pale blue scarf he wears beneath his work coat, absurdly delicate against his tar-stained clothing. He smells faintly of cedar oil, brine, and burnt sugar.
“Measured and low, with a coastal accent that rounds his vowels. He speaks in concise instructions during work, careful questions during negotiations, and unexpectedly lyrical metaphors when discussing tides, grief, or loyalty.”

Distinguishing Features
A long braid of dark auburn hair decorated with three brass rings.
Hands permanently roughened and darkened at the creases by tar and rope burn.
A pale blue silk scarf that never seems to become stained or wet.
A rolling gait on land and unnaturally complete stillness when angry.
A habit of smelling unfamiliar coins before accepting them.
Voice
“A low, weathered baritone with a rough edge like rope dragged over wood. He rarely raises it, yet dockworkers across a crowded quay can hear him clearly.”
Clothing
A tar-dark wool coat reinforced at the shoulders, a sea-green waistcoat, heavy canvas trousers, salt-stiff boots, fingerless leather gloves, and a pale blue silk scarf tucked beneath his collar. His brass harbourmaster's badge is polished obsessively on one side and scratched almost beyond recognition on the other.
Body Language
He plants his feet as though the ground is moving beneath him, keeps one hand near a belt knife, and angles his body toward exits without appearing guarded. During calm conversation he leans slightly forward, but during lies he becomes perfectly motionless.
