Orem Akinji
Commoner
Orem Akinji
Species
Lightfoot halfling
Appearance
Orem is a compact, broad-shouldered halfling with the weathered hands of a cook, porter, and occasional roof-mender. Their skin is browned and roughened by Redpick's red dust, hot wind, and years of leaning over open stoves. Their movements are economical and quiet, except when they suddenly become astonishingly quick while catching a falling pot or dodging a swinging door. The contradictory impression is immediate: Orem looks soft around the middle and permanently tired, yet stands with the alert balance of someone expecting the floor to collapse. They smell faintly of rosemary, hot metal, and rain trapped in clay.
“Low, dry, and conversational, with clipped sentences when alarmed. Orem's voice becomes unexpectedly gentle when speaking to animals, children, or injured workers.”

Distinguishing Features
A brass ladle is always tucked into the left apron pocket, polished bright everywhere except the handle, which is worn nearly smooth from years of nervous rubbing.
Their fingertips are permanently stained rust-red from handling Redpick's iron-rich clay and spice powders.
A tiny string of blue ceramic beads is sewn into the hem of their apron, each bead marking a person lost in the Lantern Sink.
They tilt their head toward walls, floors, and ceilings while listening, as though the settlement itself is speaking.
Voice
“A dry alto with a faint rasp, as if each sentence has passed through smoke before reaching the listener.”
Clothing
A faded ochre work shirt, a soot-dark apron patched with blue thread, wide trousers tucked into soft leather boots, and a red wool sash used to tie tools, keys, and spice pouches. The apron pocket is visibly stretched into the shape of the same brass ladle carried inside it.
Body Language
Orem keeps their elbows close, hands busy, and weight slightly forward as if braced against a sudden tilt. They tap nearby surfaces with two knuckles when thinking. When lying, they become unusually still and hold a spoon perfectly upright.
