Appearance
Mizuho looks like a woman sculpted from river water and then persuaded to remain solid. Her skin is deep brown with a damp, satin sheen, textured at the shoulders and calves like fine river pebbles smoothed by years of current. Her hair hangs in heavy black ropes that move a heartbeat after she does, each strand beaded with droplets that never fall. Her hands are broad-palmed and webbed between the fingers, while her narrow feet leave faint wet prints even on dry stone. She moves with a quiet sideways sway, as though listening to an invisible current. The unexpected contradiction is her immaculate, carefully mended clothing and the faint smell of iron-rich mud that follows her everywhere.
“Careful, economical, and image-rich. She pauses before important nouns, as though weighing whether they should be allowed to remain spoken.”

Distinguishing Features
A tiny silver fish swims beneath the skin of her left wrist and changes direction when danger approaches.
Her wet footprints briefly fill with reflected stars instead of water.
The copper toggles on her coat are stamped with a family pattern from a mortal mountain culture.
Her shadow always appears half a second behind her movements.
She carries an iron bell clapper but never allows anyone to hear it ring.
Voice
“A low contralto with a gentle rasp, like water moving through a narrow stone channel. When she is frightened, a second faint voice echoes her final word from somewhere nearby.”
Clothing
A layered indigo wrap-coat of waxed linen, secured with copper toggles shaped like fish vertebrae. The sleeves are too long and hide most of her hands. A faded red sash, repaired with pale blue thread, is wrapped three times around her waist. Her boots are soft gray felt with soles stitched from eel skin. Every garment is clean, patched, and over-cared-for, except one mud-stained scarf she will not wash.
Body Language
She angles her body toward the nearest source of water, keeps her hands folded like a patient ferryman, and tilts her head sharply whenever someone lies. When relaxed, she rocks subtly from heel to toe as if standing in a boat.
