Baku Toggah
Fighter
Baku Toggah
Species
Human
Appearance
Baku is a broad-shouldered human with the compact strength of someone who has spent years hauling crates, lifting wagon wheels, and sleeping badly beneath canvas. Sun and road dust have roughened his skin across the forearms and nose, while the backs of his hands are permanently darkened by axle grease. He moves with a careful, rolling balance learned from walking beside swaying caravans, though he occasionally forgets himself and strides like a conquering hero. His grin arrives before his greeting, warm and disarming, but his eyes become unexpectedly solemn when he thinks nobody is looking. The contradictory impression he leaves is of a man built like a gatehouse who handles frightened animals with remarkable gentleness.
“Baku speaks in a broad, friendly voice with a noticeable river-road cadence. He uses grand comparisons for ordinary events, calling a loose wagon pin a siege engine and a bad mule a veteran of three wars.”

Distinguishing Features
His left eyebrow lifts higher than the right whenever he lies, making his boasts easy to detect.
The fingers of his sword hand are stained with black axle grease that never fully washes away.
He carries a red scarf that is cleaner and better maintained than any other part of his clothing.
He laughs with his entire chest, producing a booming sound that makes nearby cups tremble.
His shield bears a carefully painted kettle surrounded by six tiny stars, though only one star represents a real victory.
Voice
“A booming baritone with a warm laugh, a slight rasp from dust and cheap ale, and an unexpectedly soft murmur when speaking to frightened animals or remembering the dead.”
Clothing
A patched brown gambeson sits beneath a dented chain shirt that is one size too large in the shoulders and too short at the wrists. He wears faded blue trousers tucked into cracked riding boots, each boot repaired with a different color of leather. His red wool scarf is absurdly well cared for, brushed clean and folded precisely every night. A brass kettle charm hangs from his belt as a token of the Red Kettle Caravan.
Body Language
Baku plants his feet wide and rests one hand on his sword pommel even when there is no danger. He leans too close when excited, claps people on the shoulder with excessive force, and instinctively turns his body between strangers and anyone smaller than himself. When ashamed, he rubs his thumb across the edge of his shield and studies the ground.
