Jessa Vane-Tide the First Wake
Species
Sea Elf exile
Appearance
Jessa is an extraordinarily striking sea-elf woman with a narrow, elegant face, high cheekbones, and luminous violet eyes that seem to measure the price of every breath in the room. Her silver-white hair falls in disciplined sheets to her waist, streaked with pale sea-green that glimmers like light beneath deep water. Her skin is blue-gray with a faint nacreous sheen, cool and smooth except for a web of tiny white scars along her throat, the marks of an old drowning punishment. She moves with the economical grace of a hunting heron, never hurried and never quite still. Her presence is regal, almost courtly, yet her smile reveals one slightly crooked canine tooth, an unexpectedly homely detail that makes her seem more dangerous rather than less.
“Her speech is smooth, hypnotic, and carefully paced. She favors exact nouns, maritime metaphors, and sentences that sound like observations until their threat becomes clear.”

Distinguishing Features
Luminous violet eyes with tiny silver flecks that appear to rotate in darkness
A web of pale drowning scars across her throat
Silver sea-serpent earrings that click softly when she turns her head
A crooked canine tooth visible only when she smiles sincerely
A walking cane made from polished ivory with a hidden stiletto blade
A faint scent of brine, lamp oil, and cloves that follows her indoors
Voice
“A low, resonant contralto with a faint rasp like wet rope drawn across a ship's cleat. Her voice becomes softer when she is angriest, and people often remember the silence around her words more vividly than the words themselves.”
Clothing
A meticulously tailored heavy deep-sea wool coat lined with dark otter fur, fastened with tarnished silver clasps. Beneath it she wears a high-collared charcoal vest, fitted trousers, waterproof riding boots, and a belt of hidden compartments. Her silver filigree earrings resemble coiling sea serpents, and her ivory-handled walking cane conceals a razor-sharp poisoned stiletto.
Body Language
Jessa stands with her cane planted lightly before her, as if the floor belongs to her by ancient right. She tilts her head when someone speaks, exposing the scarred side of her throat. Her hands remain relaxed except when she is genuinely angry, at which point her fingers become perfectly motionless. She rarely blinks during negotiations.
