Dagna Belkin
Master smith and forge warden
Dagna Belkin
Species
Half-orc
Appearance
Dagna Belkin is a massive half-orc woman who seems to have been built around the dimensions of an anvil. Her shoulders fill doorways, her arms are corded with forge muscle, and she moves with a careful, economical shuffle that suddenly becomes startlingly quick when something falls or sparks leap from the coals. Her skin has the muted green-gray tone of river stone under soot, while her hands are mapped with tiny pale burn marks and permanently darkened fingertips. Copper rings hang from both ears, each ring hammered flat on one side from years of brushing against her leather collar. She wears a reinforced master smith's apron layered with dark iron plates, and old scars cross her forearms and left shoulder from years of defending Hill's Edge. The unexpected contradiction is her delicacy: when examining a blade, she handles it like a sleeping bird, stroking its edge with one blunt thumb and whispering to it before judging the work. Her jaw clenches whenever anyone praises her craftsmanship, as if admiration were a debt she cannot afford to owe. At the height of her authority, apprentices and militia alike instinctively look to her when danger reaches the forge.
“Low, blunt, and carefully measured. Her words often arrive with the cadence of hammer blows, but she becomes unexpectedly soft when discussing apprentices, animals, or well-made tools.”

Distinguishing Features
Two flattened copper ear rings that audibly click against her collar when she turns her head.
Burned fingertips with pale, polished pads from years of handling hot metal.
A jaw that visibly tightens whenever someone praises her work.
A heavy iron apron worn smooth and shiny only across the left hip, where she repeatedly leans against the same anvil.
She takes up so much space that strangers instinctively step aside before realizing they have done so.
A pale scar runs from her left shoulder toward her ribs, received while defending the forge during a riot.
A tiny blue enamel mark on her maul identifies her as the senior smith of Hill's Edge.
Voice
“A deep contralto roughened by smoke, with a faint rasp at the edges. In anger it becomes quiet rather than loud, while sincere tenderness makes it nearly disappear into a whisper.”
Clothing
A smoke-stained canvas shirt, layered leather sleeves, a reinforced blackened iron masterwork apron, braced trousers, heavy boots with copper rivets, and a faded blue scarf tied around her wrist when she works. Her apron now includes articulated shoulder and hip plates designed for fighting inside the forge.
Body Language
Dagna stands with her feet planted wide, unconsciously claiming more space than she needs. She folds her arms when praised, taps two fingers against her apron when calculating, and leans close enough during serious conversations that smaller people must tilt their heads back. When she is ashamed, she polishes one copper earring with the edge of her thumb. In combat, she keeps one shoulder angled toward the nearest ally and tracks every weapon hand in the area.
