Voice

A dry, papery rasp sits beneath Myrakel's clear, steady voice, a sound worn by battlefield commands and long silence. Their consonants are firm and exact. When angered, they speak faster and stack short factual clauses, as if cross-examining a battlefield.

Myrakel's voice has a dry, papery rasp beneath a clear, steady core, as if shaped by years of speaking over armor and battlefield noise. Their consonants land firmly, and their breath catches slightly on old celestial names. They do not raise their voice to command; they shorten their sentences and make each word harder to mistake.

Speech patterns

Uses concrete words about weight, distance, doors, and consequences.
Asks people to distinguish what they witnessed from what they were told.
Calls a broken promise a fracture, and a convenient record a polished surface.
Uses Zaephon's name rarely, and only when certain they will not be overheard.

How to play them

Myrakel responds best to specific questions, verifiable claims, and people willing to admit what they do not know. They will test a stranger's reliability with a small, low-risk request before sharing archive material. They do not demand reverence, but react sharply to anyone treating the Schism as a simple story of heroes and traitors.

Goal

Find Zaephon and establish what happened to both rebels after the battle, using evidence that does not depend on Zherath's account.

Motivation

To keep the heavens from being governed by a falsified account, without replacing one unquestionable authority with another.

Appearance

Myrakel has the tall, spare proportions of a being shaped for flight, though their shoulders have settled into a fighter's forward readiness. Their skin resembles warm alabaster dusted with fine gold grit, and their long, pale hair is kept in a severe braid wrapped around small bronze rings. The shattered halo no longer floats: its broken arc has grown into two swept-back horns, ridged like cooled glass, with tiny luminous seams that pulse when Myrakel is angry. A long, muscular tail trails behind them, its tip blunt and dark as a burned quill. They move with a measured, heel-first tread, then can pivot with startling speed, as if an invisible floor-plan governs every step. Unexpectedly, they keep a tiny, carefully tended collection of brightly colored children's spinning tops tucked among their military gear.

Clothing

A dark, sleeveless travel coat over layered scale-like plates of dull gold, with pale wraps protecting the forearms. The coat is patched at the hem and carefully repaired at the shoulders. A split rear panel leaves room for the tail; the old ceremonial fastenings have been replaced by plain iron toggles.

Body language

Myrakel holds their shoulders square and keeps their hands close to the hilt, but the tail gives away their thoughts: its tip taps when they are weighing a lie and curls protectively around anything fragile. They look directly at whoever is speaking, then glance toward the nearest exit as if acknowledging the possibility of flight rather than fearing it.

Distinguishing features

A broken halo grown into two ridged, glasslike horns.
A long tail that curls around small objects when Myrakel is thinking.
A neatly maintained braid threaded with mismatched bronze rings.
A pocket collection of brightly colored children's spinning tops, carefully protected despite Myrakel's martial life.

Personality

13 traits and drives

Myrakel is disciplined enough to wait through a long silence, yet impatient with anyone who mistakes silence for agreement. They are protective of vulnerable people but suspicious of anyone who claims to speak for an entire cause. In a crisis they become brisk and almost frighteningly decisive; afterward they apologize through useful acts rather than emotional speeches. With children and small crafted things, a private tenderness appears that they would deny is tenderness.

Alignment
Bound by duty, skeptical of institutions; willing to defy law to prevent a greater harm

Quirks

Sets a spinning top on the floor before making a difficult decision and watches how long it turns.
Counts doorways under their breath, but never counts windows.
Straightens crooked objects even while speaking about catastrophic events.
When asked a question they cannot answer, taps one horn twice with a knuckle.
Refers to a promise as something that must be able to bear weight.

Habits

Checks exits, sightlines, and the position of companions before settling into a room.
When calm, lets other people finish even when they are wrong; under pressure, cuts in with precise questions.
After a battle, collects scattered objects before tending to their own equipment.
Offers practical help more readily than comfort, but remembers exactly who accepted it.

Traits · 4

Patient with people, impatient with institutions.
Protective without being naturally gentle in manner.
Certain about their duty, uncertain about their own memories.
Can accept a personal loss more readily than an unexamined official story.

Flaws · 3

Treats uncertainty as a threat to be contained, and can become controlling when plans unravel.
Keeps important discoveries secret until they feel fully verified, sometimes denying allies the chance to help.
Has difficulty accepting comfort that cannot be turned into a practical task.

Fears · 3

That Zaephon survived but believes Myrakel abandoned them.
That the missing root-memory contains proof Myrakel's own recollections were altered.
That restoring the old celestial order would simply reproduce the harm that caused the rebellion.

Wants and needs · 3

A trustworthy witness to the events after the battle with Lioris.
Access to a copy of the founding record not handled by the Chorus.
Someone willing to challenge Myrakel's recollections without dismissing them.

Combat

HP 180 · 9 paces per turn; custom Generic Fantasy measure

Myrakel controls lanes rather than chasing the most vulnerable foe. They use Edict-Sunder to punish exposed leaders, Tail-Sweep to break a line or rescue an ally, and Broken Measure to stop a dangerous advance. They retreat when a fight endangers bystanders, but become relentless if someone attacks a witness or destroys evidence.

Custom Generic Fantasy rules. Myrakel's combat uses + the listed relevant rating; a result equal to or greater than the target's Guard succeeds. This is a table-ready custom framework, not a claim about a canonical Generic Fantasy ruleset.
Qumon resilience. Myrakel ignores ordinary fatigue and mundane environmental exposure, but can still be injured, restrained, or killed.

Tail balance. Myrakel cannot be easily knocked prone while standing on a stable surface.

Actions

Edict-Sunder. Custom attack: roll + Might against the target's Guard. On a success, deal harm. Myrakel may shift up to 10 paces before or after the strike.
Tail-Sweep. Custom attack: roll + Might against Guard. On a success, deal harm and drive the target back 3 paces. A target braced against a solid object is not moved.
Broken Measure. Once per scene, Myrakel names a visible hostile creature and declares a line of approach forbidden. Until the start of Myrakel's next turn, crossing that line requires a successful + Resolve test against Guard 15 or the creature stops at its edge. This is a custom battlefield-control feature, not canonical spellcasting.

Reactions

Interpose. Custom reaction, once per round: when an adjacent ally is struck, Myrakel may interpose their weapon. Reduce the incoming harm by ; Myrakel then takes half the harm prevented, rounded down.
Close the Measure. Custom reaction, once per round: when a visible creature begins moving past Myrakel, make a + Might test against its Guard. On success, halt its movement for this action and deal harm.

Background

Myrakel was a Qumon officer tasked with preserving the law of the heavens, and believed that a stable order could protect even those who disliked it. During the Great Schism, they fought alongside Zaephon against Lioris, leading a rebellion against the original Edict and its Original Harmonics. The records say Myrakel and Zaephon were slain, but that claim survives through Zherath's account alone. Myrakel remembers the battle differently: Lioris's voice broke across the field, the Chorus's formation collapsed, and Myrakel woke much later among the wreckage, unable to tell whether they had died, been remade, or been deliberately omitted from history. Their halo fractured in that struggle and became horns, a visible reminder that the old order cannot simply be restored. In the long aftermath, Myrakel has quietly sought Zaephon, while exchanging guarded messages with Vaedra, who once stood with Ozikhal on the mortal plane. Myrakel's current problem is immediate: surviving copies of the founding record disagree, and one newly surfaced fragment names them as the author of an order they remember opposing. They now protect mortal witnesses and damaged archives, while trying to learn whether their rebellion was a principled act, a manipulated one, or both.

Role in the story

A formidable ally, uneasy antagonist, or living contradiction whose memories can challenge the party's assumptions about the Great Schism and the Radiant Chorus.

“During the Great Schism, they fought alongside Zaephon against Lioris, leading a rebellion against the original Edict and its Original Harmonics.”
From their background
Faction
The Radiant Chorus, a founding member according to its surviving record; Myrakel now acts independently and challenges the Chorus's account of the Great Schism.

Known connections

Zaephon: fellow rebel and closest surviving link to Myrakel's account of the Great Schism. Myrakel does not know whether Zaephon survived.
Lioris: the adversary Myrakel fought during the Schism; Myrakel believes the silence surrounding Lioris has been used to excuse convenient lies.
Zherath: source of the account claiming Myrakel and Zaephon were slain, and the admitted eraser of half a god-mind's root-memory. Myrakel distrusts Zherath's testimony but wants to know what was removed.
Vaedra: a guarded correspondent and possible ally, whose presence with Ozikhal on the mortal plane complicates the Chorus's official history.
