Sister Vanya
Species
Elf
Appearance
Sister Vanya is a tall, fine-boned elf with the deliberate posture of someone balancing a full tray of glass bottles at all times. She waits with most of her weight on the balls of her feet, heels barely touching the floor, ready to spring behind a counter or into a thicket. Her skin has the warm gray-brown tone of river clay after rain, textured with tiny pale flecks across her shoulders that resemble dried salt. Her jaw is narrow but unexpectedly powerful, and her square, slightly green-tinted teeth show whenever she laughs or chews candied ginger. She moves with careful, soundless precision, yet her presence is not delicate. She leaves the impression of a patient heron guarding a nest. The contradictory detail is her hands: despite her graceful elven appearance, they are broad-palmed, heavily callused, and permanently stained dark beneath the nails by roots, charcoal, and crushed berries.
“Her voice is low, dry, and melodious, with the careful rhythm of someone reading a prescription aloud. She pauses before names, as though tasting their consequences.”

Distinguishing Features
Broad, callused hands with dark botanical stains permanently embedded beneath the nails.
A powerful narrow jaw and square green-tinted teeth that show prominently when she eats or laughs.
Waits on the balls of her feet with her heels barely touching the ground.
Pale salt-like flecks across her shoulders and collarbone that glow faintly near active magic.

Voice
“Low, dry, melodious, and controlled, with the faint rasp of dried leaves being brushed together.”
Clothing
A layered moss-green tunic beneath a sleeveless brown apothecary coat, both patched with strips of faded blue cloth. She wears a belt crowded with corked vials, pruning shears, a folding mortar, and tiny bone labels. Her soft boots are wrapped in braided grass to muffle footsteps, while a necklace of dried seed pods clicks faintly whenever she turns.
Body Language
Vanya leans forward when listening, as though inspecting a rare flower. When uncertain, she presses her thumb against the side of her index finger and rubs away imaginary soil. In danger, she becomes nearly motionless, lowers her center of gravity, and lets one hand drift toward the nearest plant or pouch.
