Valdane
Merchant and Former Sailor
Valdane
Species
Tiefling
Appearance
Valdane is a narrow, long-limbed tiefling whose movements have the constant, subtle sway of someone standing on a deck even when the floor is perfectly still. His skin has the texture and muted sheen of old red-brown leather, marked by pale salt scars across his knuckles and throat. Two swept-back horns emerge from his brow like polished black ship timbers, each wrapped with tiny copper rings that chime when he turns his head. His tail is unusually thin and expressive, ending in a tuft of pale fur that he keeps meticulously brushed. One eye is amber and sharp as a gull's, while the other is clouded pearl from an old sea injury. He smells faintly of tar, orange peel, and rain-soaked rope. Despite his infernal appearance and intimidating horns, he has an unexpectedly delicate habit of handling every object as though it were a newborn bird.
“His voice is a low, weathered baritone with a soft harbor accent. He speaks slowly when naming prices and rapidly when describing danger.”

Distinguishing Features
One clouded pearl-white eye caused by a splinter of enchanted driftwood
Copper rings on both horns that chime softly with his movements
A tail tuft that is pale, silky, and strangely unlike the rest of his body
A thin scar shaped like a branching wave across the left side of his throat
A brass ship's whistle that produces no sound for anyone except Valdane
Voice
“A low, salt-roughened baritone with a harbor accent, usually calm enough to make bad news sound like an invoice”
Clothing
A patched navy-blue waistcoat over a cream shirt stiffened by years of salt, high black trousers tucked into tar-dark boots, a red sash containing lockpicks and measuring cord, and a weatherproof coat lined with faded sailcloth. He wears a brass ship's whistle around his neck and keeps one immaculate white glove for handling valuable merchandise.
Body Language
Valdane leans slightly as though compensating for a rolling deck. His tail curls around chair legs when he is relaxed and lashes against his boots when he suspects deception. He touches his copper horn rings whenever making a difficult decision, and he instinctively positions himself with a wall or counter behind him.
