Appearance
Pavo is a broad, weathered man whose presence makes a room feel measured. He stands with his weight slightly forward, as if every floorboard has already been tested for failure, and walks with a quiet, deliberate limp that becomes almost graceful when he is angry. His hands are the most arresting part of him: square-palmed, heavily callused, and permanently darkened around the nails by iron dust and gate grease. He counts under his breath whenever someone enters a room, touching each finger to his thumb in sequence. His face is clean-shaven except for a narrow gray chin tuft, and his iron-colored hair is clipped close enough to reveal the pale scalp beneath. He smells faintly of lamp oil, rain, and old leather. The contradiction is that his intimidating bulk is accompanied by astonishingly gentle movements around fragile objects, especially cups, keys, and sleeping children.
“Low, level, and unhurried. Pavo speaks as if every sentence is an entry in a permanent record.”

Distinguishing Features
He counts every person entering a room, usually by touching his thumb to four fingers in sequence.
His hands are stained with permanent iron dust, and his fingertips are smooth in odd places from decades of filing keys and mechanisms.
He walks with a restrained forward-leaning limp but can pivot with startling speed.
A brass tally ring engraved with tiny gate symbols is worn on his left thumb.
He leaves small chalk marks near doors to record whether hinges, locks, and thresholds have been checked.
Voice
“A dry baritone with a faint rasp, like a file drawn across iron. His voice becomes softer, not louder, when delivering an order he expects to be obeyed.”
Clothing
A dark blue gate captain's coat reinforced with hidden leather plates, brass closures polished only where his fingers touch them, thick gray trousers, steel-capped boots, and a weatherproof half-cloak lined with stitched inspection tags from retired gate stations.
Body Language
Pavo keeps his shoulders square and his chin slightly lowered, giving the impression that he is inspecting a structural weakness in whoever faces him. His left thumb constantly rubs the edge of a brass tally ring. He rarely gestures broadly, but when he does point, the gesture feels like the placement of a barricade.
