Vespera Scriven-Shield
Species
Human
Appearance
A sharp, compact human woman whose presence makes a room feel catalogued. Vespera moves with economical precision, never quite brushing against furniture or people, as though she has memorized the exact clearance of every object. Her ink-dark fingertips are permanently ridged with tiny calluses from stylus work, and the nails of her right hand are polished while those of her left remain stained black. Her hazel eyes are keen and watchful, but her expression is often softened by an unexpectedly tender smile when discussing old handwriting. The left side of her head is shaved close, exposing faint ritual scars arranged like a ladder above the temple. Her contradictory impression is striking: she looks severe enough to sentence a duke, yet she handles fragile documents with the care of someone cradling sleeping infants.
“Low, clipped, and exact. She speaks in complete sentences, rarely uses contractions, and gives emotional statements the structure of formal findings.”

Distinguishing Features
Ink-dark fingertips and unevenly stained nails from decades of archival work.
A shaved left temple bearing faint ladder-like ritual scars.
A massive ring of iron skeleton keys that announces her arrival before she speaks.
An ivory-handled stylus designed to break heavy sealing wax.
A habit of tasting the air before opening sealed rooms or vaults.
Voice
“A dry contralto with the measured cadence of someone reading a verdict. When she whispers, every listener instinctively leans closer.”
Clothing
A heavy, high-collared monastic robe of dark gray wool reinforced with narrow banded leather strips. The robe is carefully patched at the elbows with nearly invisible gray thread, fits slightly too large through the sleeves, and is cinched with a broad belt carrying an enormous ring of iron skeleton keys. Her boots are plain and practical, but her ivory-handled sealing stylus is obsessively polished. A faded blue thread is sewn into the robe's inner cuff, a private family token from her caravan-guard ancestors.
Body Language
She keeps her shoulders square and her hands folded around the ivory stylus. Before touching a door, she tilts her head and briefly tastes the air. When someone lies, she does not look at them. She looks at the nearest writing surface, as if preparing to record the correction.
