According to temple tradition, the pantheon arose when the First Scale cracked open and ten ascended dragons emerged from the wound. Each dragon took responsibility for one force shaping mortal life, but their domains overlap because no emotion exists in isolation. Later heresies claim the dragons were once mortal heroes, or that they are fragments of a sleeping world-serpent.

The universe began when the First Scale cracked open in the darkness. From that wound emerged ten ascended dragons, each carrying a primal emotion, sin, virtue, or mystery. Their bodies became the world: their bones formed mountains, their breath became weather, and their shed scales became stars. Mortals are considered unfinished dragons, capable of becoming nobler than their makers or more monstrous.

The religion has no single church. It is a network of competing temple traditions called the Scale Communion, loosely bound by shared myths, pilgrimage routes, and the rule that no deity may be worshipped without acknowledging at least one rival. Each temple is led by a Scale-Bearer, while itinerant Dragon-Speakers settle disputes, interpret omens, and broker divine bargains. Major shrines form paired or triangular alliances: Tqak with Gorumai for justice and mercy, Araz with Uqor for courage and hope, Chaska with Batzak for memory and secrecy, and Zogu with Miktu for desire and possession. Kantu's shrines are deliberately temporary, while Ketuq's cults are outlawed, fragmented, and often hidden inside legitimate institutions.

The gods actively intervene through omens, dreams, incarnate avatars, possessed relics, miraculous weather, battlefield revelations, and sudden emotional upheavals. Mortals are not pawns so much as unfinished participants in divine politics: a village may bargain with Miktu, defy Batzak, invoke Gorumai, or become the subject of a feud between Zogu and Araz. Temples frequently honor a primary deity while acknowledging several rivals, because every important choice touches more than one divine domain.

The dead cross the Mirror Stair, where Tqak weighs their strongest emotion against the choices it caused. Those who mastered their passions ascend to the Star-Crown with Uqor; those ruled by them are claimed by the deity whose nature consumed them. No soul is erased: even the damned remain as dreaming dragons beneath the world, whispering temptations into mortal hearts.
