Before mortal history, the heavens were governed by a broad divine assembly called the Concordance. Eras, the Keeper of the Last Bell, and Othzari were among its most potent members. Fearing that their combined influence would destabilize mortals and unravel the laws of the world, the other gods cast them beyond the cosmic boundary. The three survived in exile and became a separate, distant religion whose followers believe banishment revealed more about the Concordance’s fear than about the exiles’ guilt.

Reality is a sealed sphere surrounded by the Outer Quiet, where the three Exiled Ones endure. The original pantheon maintains the sphere’s laws, but the exiles press against its boundaries through magic, prophecy, dreams, accidents, and impossible coincidences. Eras embodies what reality could become, the Keeper of the Last Bell governs what reality has already become, and Othzari shapes what reality can imagine becoming. Mortals live at the pressure point where all three influences meet.

The religion has no central hierarchy. It consists of three partially overlapping traditions: the Unbound Circles of Eras, the Bellwardens of the Keeper of the Last Bell, and the Doorless Houses of Othzari. Each tradition maintains its own rites, symbols, and initiations, but all recognize the others as fractured members of the same exiled faith. Mixed shrines are uncommon and often politically dangerous. Most practitioners believe the three gods remain distant because direct contact would damage the mortal world.

Most mortals know the Exiled Ones only through fragmented sects, forbidden shrines, recurring dreams, and strange coincidences. Official temples of the older pantheon condemn them as existential hazards, while some rulers secretly consult the Keeper of the Last Bell, desperate mages bargain with Eras, and artists seek Othzari’s blessing. Their worshippers rarely agree on doctrine, but all share the sense that the gods are watching from very far away.

The Exiled Ones do not promise a single afterlife. The dead drift toward the influence they embodied: Eras draws the daring into the Unmade Vast, where possibilities become landscapes; the Keeper of the Last Bell gathers the faithful into the Long Interval, a silent realm between heartbeats; and Othzari receives dreamers into the Waking Elsewhere, where thought and reality are indistinguishable. Most souls remain distant from all three, becoming faint impressions in the world’s memory.
