Origin

According to the oldest surviving account, the pantheon began when six mortals reached the edge of the world and discovered that the heavens were empty. Each returned carrying a different answer: Azhgan brought the vow, Orvek the fire, Keshan the horizon, Torga the wound, Savaj the key, and Nersh the secret. Their answers became gods only after generations of travelers repeated them.

Cosmology

The gods dwell beyond the Rim of Maps, where every mortal road casts a shadow into eternity. The world below is the First Road; the afterlife is the Far Camp beyond its final milestone. Orvek keeps the campfires, Azhgan marks the vows, Torga tests the paths, Keshan opens forbidden horizons, Nersh hides what should not be known, and Savaj guards the last threshold.

Structure

The religion has no universal hierarchy. Each shrine is an independent wayhouse, chapel, gatehouse, archive, or summit altar. Roadkeepers meet in rare conclaves called Gatherings of the Six Roads, where disputes are settled by recounting a quest and asking which deity's values best explain its outcome. Pilgrims commonly carry six tokens: a bootprint for Azhgan, a lamp for Orvek, a compass for Keshan, a red stone for Torga, a key for Savaj, and a black thread for Nersh. The tokens are often arranged differently, reflecting local belief about which god should lead a life.

Mortal Relations

The gods rarely intervene directly. They appear through failed signposts, impossible survivals, recurring dreams, altered maps, missing names, and strangers who offer exactly one piece of useful advice. Priests are called Roadkeepers, but each serves a single deity and may distrust the others. Most communities honor the entire pantheon in public while privately choosing one god for life-changing vows.

Afterlife

The Far Camp lies beyond the last road: a silent continent of abandoned milestones, moonlit ruins, and fires that never consume their fuel. Souls arrive alone and are welcomed by Orvek, then assigned no eternal reward. Instead, each spirit may undertake one final quest shaped by its deepest unfinished vow. Those who complete it become guides, guardians, or storytellers for the newly dead; those who refuse remain at the Far Camp, listening for a summons from Savaj of the Uncrossed Gate.
