Before history, the world was a dark sphere suspended in nothing. Behemoth settled beneath it, Leviathan coiled around it, and Ziz spread its wings above it. Their separation produced land, sea, and sky. The first mortal peoples mistook this arrangement for creation and built religions around the misunderstanding.

The world is a temporary island between three primordial immensities. Behemoth is the Weight Below, whose resting body gives the continents their foundations. Leviathan is the Current Beneath Currents, whose turning dreams shape seas, storms, and hidden passages. Ziz is the Vast Above, whose wings hold the sky apart from the abyss. The world exists because all three remain distant from one another; if they ever fully meet, creation will become either a single body, a single ocean, or a single command.

The Three Horizons has no central church. Each deity is served by distant, specialized orders: Behemoth’s Hearthwardens preserve communities and maintain foundations; Leviathan’s Unmoored Houses travel between coasts, rivers, and rebel settlements; Ziz’s Meridian Courts regulate calendars, law, astronomy, and imperial succession. Most settlements acknowledge all three through separate shrines, though rulers often favor Ziz, laboring communities favor Behemoth, and marginalized or mobile peoples favor Leviathan.

The gods rarely answer directly. Their influence appears through geological upheaval, impossible tides, altered migrations, prophetic dreams, unexplained laws of nature, and institutions that claim divine authority. Priests may receive signs, but no mortal can be certain whether a sign came from Behemoth, Leviathan, Ziz, or from the world itself.

The dead drift into the Far Unmeasured, a silent expanse beyond the world’s rim. Behemoth receives those who carried burdens without witness, Leviathan draws in those who surrendered themselves to vast change, and Ziz gathers those whose thoughts rose beyond mortal horizons. None of the three grants judgment; each simply reveals the scale of what a soul became.
