Danko’s Lair
Danko’s Lair is a half-collapsed dragon temple hidden behind three broad waterfalls in a rainforest ravine. Root tunnels connect flooded chambers beneath the ruin, while elevated stone bridges cross shafts thick with fern and hanging moss. At the center stands a colossal petrified seed that pulses with green light. Danko, an emerald velociraptor dragon, treats the temple as both fortress and living responsibility.
Danko’s Lair
A dragon watches the waterfalls while something beneath the temple learns to wake.
“Rain never stops for long at Danko’s Lair. Water hammers the temple roof, roots flex through cracked masonry, and green light pulses beneath every wet stone. The place feels watched because it is watched. Danko studies visitors through wall fissures before they see him, while a few half-wild veloceraptors rustle through fern beds and vanish. Nothing here is abandoned. The ruin is being patiently reclaimed by something older than the dragon.”

Geography
Culture
The lair recognizes three kinds of trespasser: lost, greedy, and destructive. The lost may be guided out. The greedy are frightened until they leave. The destructive are remembered. Danko values patience, restraint, and the preservation of old places over comfort or friendship. He is not merciful in the human sense, but he is consistent, and creatures that obey his signs are usually allowed to depart alive.
There is no humanoid culture here, but the lair has its own habits. Danko arranges shed scales, bones, and fallen blossoms into repeating patterns along the shrine floor. The veloceraptors imitate his warning clicks and scratch marks into bark. Travelers who stay too long sometimes mistake these displays for decoration. They are closer to boundary markers, memorials, and arguments written in a language of scent, sound, and placement.
History
Government
The petrified seed is beginning to wake during each new moon, and its green pulses are attracting creatures that would normally avoid the temple. Danko cannot defend every chamber while also keeping the seed dormant.
The Brass Claim has hired The Rootcutters to open a dry-season path into the shrine. Danko’s warnings have slowed them but have not stopped them, and his patience is wearing thin.
Danko’s instinct to protect the seed conflicts with his ability to recognize harmless travelers. Several recent visitors carried tools and food meant as gifts, but fear made him drive them away.
Economy
Food becomes scarce during long floods, when prey animals move to higher ground. Clean metal is also rare because Danko refuses to let miners dig near the temple foundations.
Defenses
A loose clutch of three to six veloceraptors occasionally shelters here. They hunt, scout, and imitate Danko’s warning calls, but they do not remain year-round.
Law & Order
- crime Level
- Low among creatures that understand Danko’s warnings, severe for anyone who ignores them. Relic theft and root-cutting are common attempts from outsiders.
- enforcement
- Danko gives clear signs before acting: a shifted stone, a dropped scale, a warning click, or a marked path. If the warning is ignored, he uses stealth, terrain, and targeted attacks to drive intruders out.
- typical Punishment
- Trespassers are disarmed, separated from their companions, frightened through the jungle, and escorted beyond the ravine. Destructive offenders may be hunted for days. Danko keeps one object from repeat offenders as a permanent reminder.
