About

The floorboards near the counter creak loudly, and Samira keeps a hand bell within reach. She remembers faces and unpaid tabs exceptionally well. A painted board outside lists the prices of ordinary goods, while unusual requests are met with a long, thoughtful pause.

Stash

4 items to steal

The stash · GM only

The till and stock are kept in a narrow storeroom behind the counter. The till drawer is easy to reach, but the storeroom door has a simple latch wired to a warning bell, and the owner's cot is just beyond it.

Security check: DC 13Dexterity (Thieves' Tools)
If they fail: A bell wired to the storeroom latch rings when it opens. If the party fails the Dexterity check, shopkeeper Samira al-Qays hears it from the adjoining room, calls for the night watch, and blocks the front door while demanding the intruders surrender. The watch arrives within minutes.
The whole haul: About 41 gp

Till pouch18 gp
Kept: Under the counter, inside a shallow drawer
The day's small-coin takings, wrapped in a cloth pouch beneath the counter. Most of it is copper and silver, with a few gold pieces.
Value: 18 gp, 7 sp, 12 cp
Brass locket2 gp
Kept: On a peg beside Samira's cot in the back room
A brass locket containing a faded portrait and a lock of dark hair. It has sentimental value to Samira but little resale value.
Saffron parcel15 gp
Kept: On the highest shelf of the storeroom
A small, unmarked parcel of imported saffron, tightly wrapped to protect it from damp.
Trade ledger5 gp
Kept: In a locked wooden box beneath the storeroom desk
A ledger of customer tabs, deliveries, and the dates the town's watch collects its grain allotment. It could expose debts or reveal the timing of routine patrols.
Value: 5 gp to a buyer who values the information
