Shop Inventory
(15)A dependable spear with a broad leaf-shaped head, balanced for both thrusting and throwing.
A hand axe with a practical ash haft and a serviceable iron blade. Sold singly or in matched pairs.
A straight-backed military sword with a leather-wrapped grip and a nicked but carefully honed edge.
A sturdy longbow made from seasoned yew, supplied with a waxed bowstring and six practice arrows.
A narrow military blade with a hooked guard and a pommel weighted for sudden changes of direction. Its maker's marks have been filed away, but the balance is exceptional.
A bundle of twenty fletched arrows with gray goose feathers. The heads are iron, not silvered or enchanted.
Overlapping iron plates fitted over a quilted gambeson. The shoulder plates bear old hammer marks from repeated repairs.
A battered but sound suit of plate armor, assembled from pieces salvaged from three different soldiers' harnesses.
A round wooden shield faced with iron and painted in dull red lacquer. Its inside strap has been replaced with soft rawhide.
A compact steel buckler with a raised central boss and a long inner grip, designed for guards who protect narrow doorways.
A thumb-sized glass vial of bright red liquid, sealed with black wax and wrapped in straw against breakage.
A cloudy green poison in a narrow ceramic vial. The shopkeeper sells it only after asking whether the buyer understands its risks.
A tin of thick black grease smelling of clove, lamp oil, and iron filings. One tin treats one weapon or one suit of armor.
A rolled repair bundle for field maintenance, wrapped in oilskin and tied with red cord.
A plain iron hook worn at the belt, useful for hanging a shield, helmet, or coil of rope while traveling.

Shop Atmosphere
“Halfgate Armory began as a sign reading 'Half-Closed Gate, Weapons and Harness,' referring to the old gatehouse beside which the business was founded. Locals shortened the name to Halfgate generations ago, though the gatehouse is now gone. The shop is a long, cool chamber of soot-dark stone, crowded with shield racks, hanging mail, stacked spear shafts, and armor forms wearing mismatched helmets. A forge burns behind a waist-high iron grate, filling the place with the smell of coal, hot oil, leather, and rain-damp wool. Every weapon is tagged with a little strip of blue cloth indicating whether it is new, repaired, or previously owned. The floorboards near the counter creak in a deliberate pattern, and one apparently decorative bell cord is actually connected to the rear door. Mair Gell is a broad-shouldered hill dwarf with a soft, rounded face, cropped iron-gray hair, and hands permanently darkened by soot. He speaks gently until someone mistreats a blade, at which point his quiet corrections become startlingly exact. He is a level 5 fighter and master armorer who favors a patched leather apron over plain clothes. Mair is patient with inexperienced adventurers, but charges an extra 5 sp for weapons returned with blood left in the grooves. He remembers every repair by the shape of the damage and keeps the best custom pieces behind the counter rather than displaying them.”
