About

The shelves are arranged by how loudly an item hums, not by its name or function. Kett insists that every customer test a purchase by stating what problem they hope it solves, then offers blunt advice about whether the magic is worth the coin.

Stash

4 items to steal

The stash · GM only

The most tempting goods are displayed in front, but the day’s coins and private records are kept behind the counter. A locked workroom cabinet holds a few personal valuables. A hidden glass-eye alarm and a bell on the workroom door make a quiet theft difficult.

Security check: DC 14Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) using thieves' tools
If they fail: The bell chimes and the glass eye over the counter flashes blue. Kett emerges from the curtained workroom with a wand in hand and calls for the city watch; if the party flees, he can identify them by their faces and clothing.
The whole haul: About 92 gp

Counter Purse18 gp
Kept: Tucked beneath the till's removable wooden tray.
A leather coin purse containing mixed copper, silver, and gold from the day's small sales.
Value: 18 gp, 7 sp, 24 cp
Kett's Spectacles Case8 gp
Kept: In the drawer of the writing desk behind the shop counter.
A brass spectacles case engraved with a faded initial, holding spare lenses and a tiny family likeness painted on ivory.
Cracked Astrolabe45 gp
Kept: On a high shelf in the locked workroom cabinet.
A small silver-inlaid astrolabe with a hairline crack across its engraved face.
Order Ledger20 gp
Kept: Inside the desk's false-bottom compartment.
A stitched ledger of customer names, deposits, and promised deliveries. Some entries reveal who in town is buying magic discreetly.
Value: 20 gp to a rival merchant or blackmailer; little value to an ordinary fence.
