Weapons5

A balanced knife with a broad spine and a grip wrapped in tarred cord. Useful at the forge, on the road, or in a desperate fight.

A practical woodsman's axe with a clean edge and a haft of seasoned ash. Thrummon keeps several hanging near the quenching trough.

A dependable battlefield blade with a plain crossguard and a leather-wrapped grip. Each one is tested against a hanging iron ring.

A stout, broad-headed hammer made for crushing armor and driving rivets. Thrummon approves of buyers who test its balance before asking the price.

A compact military polearm with a hooked blade and reinforced socket. The haft is sold separately if a customer wants a longer reach.

Armor3

Interlocking iron plates fitted over a leather backing. It is plain, heavy, and shaped to leave room for a shield arm.

AC +16

A dent-resistant suit of overlapping steel plates, offered in several rough sizes. Thrummon will adjust the straps for one additional gold piece.

AC +18

A round iron-rimmed shield with a reinforced boss and a grip that will not split under repeated impact.

AC +2
Miscellaneous7

Straight-shafted arrows with iron heads, fletched in plain gray feathers. Not decorative, but reliable.

A compact repair kit for field work. It is not enough to forge a weapon, but it can mend straps, rivets, buckles, and simple metal fittings.

A stoppered clay flask of dark mineral oil with a sharp coal smell. Thrummon sells it in small quantities to miners, guards, and caravan hands.

Can coat a weapon or metal tool against ordinary damp and rust for one week if applied and maintained properly.

A gray oval stone from a local quarry, wrapped in oiled cloth. The surface is fine enough for finishing work without being fragile.

Ten minutes of careful sharpening removes ordinary nicks and restores a dulled mundane edge.

A thick iron bracer engraved with three short hammer marks. It does not make its wearer stronger, but it rewards a firm stance and honest effort.

The advantage lasts only for that single check. The bracer grows warm when the wearer commits to the effort.

A squat iron disk suspended on braided cord. Thrummon claims it was made from a fragment of the first anvil he ever broke.

The pendant vibrates faintly near anvils, bells, and thunderous impacts.

Well-used smithing gloves sold to apprentices, travelers, and adventurers who expect to handle damaged armor in the field.

Grants practical protection from sparks, hot handles, and rough metal, but provides no mechanical bonus against magical fire.

Where The Take Sits

The shop's visible till sits beneath the front counter, while higher-value goods and personal effects are spread through the working forge. The best records are hidden in a false-bottom drawer, and the pure ironstone is secured in a locked sample drawer near the quenching trough. Constant hammering, smoke, and steam make movement difficult to observe, but Thrummon knows every change in the forge's rhythm.

Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) for quiet removal, or Dexterity with thieves' tools to open the locked sample drawer

On Failure

A failed theft attempt makes a tool, chain, or hanging weapon crash into the floor. Thrummon hears the change in rhythm through the forge noise, emerges from behind the furnace with a hammer in hand, and demands the culprit explain themselves. If the party fails by 5 or more, he bars the front door, calls for nearby watch patrols, and marks their faces in his ledger as unsafe customers.

Day's Till

8 gp, 14 sp, 36 cp
Under the counter beside the order ledger
A leather pouch containing the day's small sales, mostly silver and copper with a few gold pieces. Thrummon keeps enough change here to serve miners and caravan guards.
Personal ItemLoot target #2

Thrummon's Dent-Marked Flask

2 gp to a collector, less to anyone else
On a hook behind the forge chimney
A soot-blackened tin flask filled with bitter dwarven spirits. The cap bears three dents from old hammer blows, and Thrummon carries it whenever he leaves the forge.
ValuableLoot target #3

Pure Vein Ironstone

25 gp
Inside a locked sample drawer beneath the quenching trough
A palm-sized nugget of unusually pure ironstone, wrapped in cloth. It is not magical, but its quality would interest a smith, weaponsmith, or ore merchant.
RecordsLoot target #4

Forge Order Ledger

15 gp to an interested rival, considerably more as blackmail material
Inside the false bottom of the counter's main drawer
A bound ledger recording customer names, unpaid balances, special commissions, and notes about who failed Thrummon's handshake test. It could expose debts or provide leverage over local mercenaries and caravan guards.
Personal ItemLoot target #5

Family Mark Rubbing

5 gp as an object, priceless to the right relative
Wrapped in oilcloth inside Thrummon's personal tool chest
A folded charcoal rubbing of an old dwarf family mark, kept with a cracked copper brooch. The rubbing has sentimental value and may identify Thrummon's kin or former mining clan.
ValuableLoot target #6

Ceremonial Axe Fittings

30 gp
In a shallow tray beneath cooling tongs near the rear workbench
Three unfinished silver fittings intended for a ceremonial axe. They are small enough to conceal but recognizable as part of a commissioned piece.

Shop Atmosphere

The Singing Anvil was named after a single incident that outsiders always get wrong. Years ago, Thrummon struck a cracked anvil and produced a clear ringing note that lasted through an entire shift. Visitors claim the anvil sang a dwarven song, but locals know it was only a fortunate fracture in the metal. The shop remains deafeningly loud, with hammer blows, bell-like impacts, and the hiss of quenching oil filling the air. Coal smoke clings to every beam, and the floor is warm beneath the soles. Thrummon refuses to use bellows. He plants his boots, leans into the fire, and feeds the coals with great controlled breaths from his massive lungs. This has left his beard permanently soot-stained and given his laugh a deep, wheezing rumble. He is gruff but fair, respects anyone who understands the weight and balance of a good blade, and refuses to sell weapons to anyone who cannot look him in the eye while shaking his hand.
