About

Brakka insists every buyer tap a blade's spine against the counter before purchase, listening for what she calls an honest ring. She keeps a bucket of cold water beside the door for overheated visitors and overheated steel alike. Nothing leaves the shop without being wrapped in a scrap of old canvas.

Stash

5 items to steal

The stash · GM only

The day's takings are secured beneath the counter, while Brakka keeps personal valuables in the curtained rear room. Work tools and commission records remain near the busy forge and counter, where a tripline bell and Brakka's sharp hearing make a quiet theft difficult.

Security check: DC 14Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) to lift the till purse quietly, or Dexterity with thieves' tools to open the locked box
If they fail: A bellows-linked tripline gives a sharp clang in the workshop. Owner Brakka Kett hears it from the forge and comes to investigate with a smith's hammer in hand. If the party is caught, Brakka bars the doors, calls for the neighborhood watch, and demands the stolen goods back or payment for the damage.
The whole haul: About 64 gp

Till Purse18 gp
Kept: Under the counter, tied to an iron ring beneath the worktop
A heavy leather purse containing the day's change, mostly silver and copper, with a few gold coins tucked in the inner fold.
Value: 18 gp, 7 sp, 4 cp
Brakka's Hand Salve3 sp
Kept: In the owner's apron pocket, hanging on a peg in the rear room
A little tin of strong-smelling salve and a folded cloth, kept close for burns and aching knuckles.
Silver Signet Ring25 gp
Kept: Inside a small locked box beneath Brakka's cot
A silver-inlaid signet ring, worn smooth at the edges, with a tiny maker's mark inside.
Commission Ledger5 gp
Kept: On a shelf behind the counter, beneath a stack of scrap iron samples
A ledger listing customer names, deposits, unfinished commissions, and debts. A thief could sell it for little, but the information could be useful for leverage or investigation.
Value: 5 gp to a rival; more to someone named in the book
Matched Maker's Punches15 gp
Kept: In a fitted wooden case beside the forge's tool rack
A pair of small, precisely matched steel punches with finely cut rune-like guide marks. They are valuable to a craftsperson but awkward to fence without questions.
