Play an Epoch-Mortal if you wish to embody the driving ambition of a life lived at high speed. While other folk live for centuries and see time as a slow river, you see it as a racing current: you are the architects of the new age, defined by your adaptability and the legacy you leave behind through blood or deed. You are the masters of your own destiny, capable of learning any craft and adapting to any environment with remarkable speed.
Physical Description
Epoch-Mortals are characterized by their extreme variety of form. They typically stand between five and six feet tall with builds that range from slight and wiry to broad and muscular. Their skin pigments are vast, ranging from the deep tones of volcanic soil to the pale hues of winter snow. Their hair colors cover a full spectrum from obsidian black and deep auburn to flaxen gold and snowy white. They lack the overtly magical features of some other lineages, possessing rounded ears and a look in their eyes that is often keen and observant: as if they are constantly scanning for their next opportunity.
Society & Culture
Their culture is one of perpetual motion and documented history. Because they live shorter lives than the elf-like peoples or the long-lived stone-dwellers, they are obsessed with legacies, written records, and monumental architecture. They value ambition and social mobility, often organizing themselves into kingdoms, republics, or mercantile guilds that change and evolve rapidly. To an Epoch-Mortal, tradition is less about repeating the past and more about building a sturdy foundation for the generations that follow.
Religion & Alignment
Epoch-Mortals are the most ideologically diverse of the ancestries. They often worship deities of civilization, trade, and progress, though they are just as likely to follow darker paths of conquest or forbidden knowledge. Their alignments vary wildly based on their upbringing, though many tend toward neutrality as they balance personal ambition with the laws of their fast-changing societies.
Homelands & Architecture
They build for permanence to offset their own mortality. Their cities are often sprawling centers of trade made of stone and mortar, frequently built over the ruins of their previous civilizations. In rural areas, they favor timber-framed houses and fortified manors. Their architecture is functional yet grand, designed to stand for centuries even if the builders themselves pass in a fraction of that time.
Relationships With Other Peoples
They are the connectors of the world. Because of their shorter lifespans, they often serve as the bridge between more isolationist lineages. They trade with the subterranean stone-kin and negotiate treaties with the forest-dwelling elf-like tribes. Some lineages find the Epoch-Mortal haste to be tiring, while others find their ambition inspiring.
