You are a scion of the living earth, a towering figure of basalt and bioluminescent energy. While others tire, you endure; where others break, you stand as firm as the foundations of the world itself. Your presence is a heavy weight upon the battlefield, and your ancestry traces back to the dawn of the elemental planes.
Physical Description
Cairn-Lords are massive, broad-shouldered humanoids standing nearly eight feet tall. Their skin resembles polished volcanic rock or rough-hewn granite, often etched with geometric patterns that glow with internal elemental heat or frost. They lack hair, instead growing jagged crystalline protrusions along their brows and shoulders. Their eyes are solid orbs of light that match the color of their internal energy: molten orange or glacial blue.
Society & Culture
They live in isolated enclaves high above the clouds, following a philosophy called The Great Stillness. This culture values patience, endurance, and historical memory. Decisions are made over years of contemplation. To a Cairn-Lord, a century is but a season. They view the faster-lived species with a mixture of pity and curiosity, often likening human lives to the flickering of a spark. Their laws are etched into the walls of their mountain homes, literal stone tablets that are added to with every passing generation.
Religion & Alignment
Most Cairn-Lords follow the Path of the Unbroken Foundation, a belief system centered on the preservation of the natural order. They tend toward Neutrality. They view themselves as the immune system of the planet, rising only when a threat to the earth's core emerges. They do not worship gods in the traditional sense, but rather commune with the 'world-soul' through deep meditation.
Homelands & Architecture
Their cities are carved directly into the spires of inactive volcanoes or high-altitude cliffs. Architecture is brutalist and massive, with soaring ceilings and no stairs; they prefer sheer climbing surfaces and heavy stone elevators. Every home features a 'memory hearth' where family records are kept in the form of mineral deposits.
Relationships With Other Peoples
They are respected by dwarves for their shared love of stone and deep history, though the dwarves find them frustratingly slow to act. They maintain a distant, cold relationship with the flighty elf-like peoples of the forests. To most, a Cairn-Lord is a legendary figure, often mistaken for an elemental spirit or a minor deity when they descend into the lowlands.
