Your size is Small. Your walking speed is 30 feet.
You can communicate telepathically with one creature you can see within 30 feet. The creature must understand at least one language, and you must know at least one language. This communication conveys simple thoughts and emotions, not words or memories. The creature can reply telepathically while it remains within range. You cannot use this trait to read thoughts.
You gain proficiency in the Persuasion skill, reflecting your practiced warmth and sensitivity to conversational cues.
As a Bonus Action, you can activate the defensive secretion coating your skin for 1 minute. The coating is harmless until activated and can be detected by its faint sheen. While it is active, you can use an action to touch a creature with your exposed skin, or a creature that touches your exposed skin can choose to trigger the secretion. The creature must make a Constitution saving throw ( + your Proficiency Bonus + your Constitution modifier). On a failed save, it has the Poisoned condition until the end of its next turn. You can activate this trait a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest. Creatures that do not have exposed skin or that avoid direct contact are unaffected.
Liltkin often cultivate quick wits, social intuition, and physical resilience. They may tend toward Charisma and Constitution, but players assign any ability score increases according to the 2024 rules.
Their skin carries tiny, shifting flecks like distant stars, and their mental impressions often arrive as vivid images.
Associated with astral pools and open, quiet spaces, Starwell liltkin are contemplative navigators and archivists. They favor patient observation and often chart routes between places that overlap only under unusual skies.
Bright-eyed travelers from a realm beyond the ordinary planes, liltkin can share thoughts without words and make a first meeting feel like a welcome reunion. Their natural skin secretion is a real danger, not a casual touch hazard: liltkin control when it is active, and treat that control as an essential courtesy. They cross worlds as envoys, artists, and curious companions, seeking connection while taking care not to harm the people they come to know.
Liltkin are small amphibious humanoids with broad mouths, rounded faces, long fingers, and large eyes protected by a translucent inner lid.
Their smooth skin ranges from jewel-bright greens and blues to soft coral, gold, and deep violet, often marked by spots or bands that shift subtly with mood. A thin, naturally produced secretion covers their skin. It protects them from drying out and can irritate or poison a creature that comes into direct contact with it, so liltkin learn from childhood to handle others with care. Their voices are musical, but their expressions and mental impressions often carry more meaning than speech.
Otherworldly courts, drifting astral gardens, fey borderlands, and enclaves built around pools of luminous rain.
Young liltkin learn to regulate their skin secretion and distinguish their own thoughts from the emotional impressions of others.
Most liltkin take on adult responsibilities after completing a journey beyond their birth enclave, often returning with a new name or vocation.
Elder liltkin are prized as mediators and memory-keepers. Their colors may dull, while their telepathic impressions grow unusually clear.
Liltkin culture prizes emotional attentiveness, hospitality, and deliberate boundaries.
A host may offer a guest a conversation in speech, gesture, or carefully invited thought, while a refusal is accepted without question. Their skin secretion is called the bright veil in many communities. Children practice keeping it dormant during lessons in touch, caregiving, and craft, and adults are expected to be explicit when they activate it. Liltkin are often charming, but they regard charm as a form of welcome rather than a license to persuade.
Liltkin traditions honor thresholds, hospitality, and the delicate balance between closeness and solitude.
Some revere powers associated with dreams, rain, or safe passage between worlds; others treat these as cultural symbols rather than deities. Their communities value good intentions, but most also insist that responsible conduct matters more than sentiment. Liltkin have no common alignment, though their upbringing often encourages empathy and self-restraint.
Liltkin are drawn to the emotional lives of other peoples, but their telepathy does not grant permission to intrude.
Many make a point of asking before opening a mental conversation, and they can be deeply offended when others treat their poison as a novelty or weapon. Their natural charm helps them build friendships quickly, though they often need to explain that physical closeness requires consent and preparation.
Liltkin settlements are often temporary by design, assembled on broad leaves, floating stone, or platforms suspended above strange waters.
Their homes have smooth rails and wide doorways that allow damp skin to brush nothing by accident. Communal halls are arranged in circles, giving every speaker a clear place in the shared conversation, while quiet alcoves offer relief from the press of nearby minds.
