The Liminai are the children of the gaps: the spaces between worlds and the moments between heartbeats. Bearing the elegant features of their fey ancestors but possessing a soul forged in the shimmering void of the Interstitial Rift, they are the ultimate navigators of reality. If you want to play a character who treats physical walls as mere suggestions and whose very presence defies the laws of distance, the Liminai offer a graceful, otherworldly path for your journey.
Physical Description
To a casual observer, a Liminai might be mistaken for an elf or a half-elf of exceptional poise. However, closer inspection reveals their Rift-born heritage. Their skin often bears a faint, pearlescent shimmer, and their hair possesses a weightless quality as if constantly floating in water. Their eyes are their most distinctive feature, devoid of pupils and shimmering with the colors of a distant nebula. When they move quickly, a slight 'ghosting' effect follows their limbs, a visual echo of their presence in the dimension between dimensions.
Society & Culture
Liminai culture is centered on the concept of 'The Transit.' They view life not as a destination but as a perpetual crossing. They rarely build permanent cities, preferring to inhabit nomadic flotillas that travel through planar portals or establishing outposts in 'non-places' such as bridge-cities and transit hubs. They value silence, spatial awareness, and the preservation of cosmic balance. To a Liminai, a secret is more valuable than gold, and a map to a hidden fold in reality is the greatest treasure of all.
Religion & Alignment
Most Liminai lean toward neutrality, seeing themselves as observers of the grander cosmic dance. They often revere deities of travel, stars, or the void. They are rarely chaotic in a destructive sense but often ignore local laws that they perceive as artificial barriers to movement. Their morality is often dictated by the flow of energy: if a path is open, it is meant to be walked.
Homelands & Architecture
When they do build, Liminai architecture utilizes 'unfolding' geometries. Their homes are often larger on the inside than they appear from the outside, tucked away into pocket dimensions. These dwellings are typically minimalist, constructed from silvered stone and translucent glass to reflect the shifting light of the Rift. They favor high towers with no stairs, accessible only to those who can step through the air.
Relationships With Other Peoples
Liminai find most terrestrial species to be 'static' or 'heavy.' They feel a kinship with elf-kin and other fey-descended people but often find them too tied to the material world. Humans fascinate them for their restlessness, while shorter-lived species often find Liminai detached or aloof. They maintain a polite distance from most, fearing that getting too attached to one world will cause them to lose their connection to the Rift.
