Carrying the warmth of a dying star within their marrow, the Solari Ember-Kin are the chosen protectors of the Evening Sun faction. They are a stoic, radiant people who believe that every spark of light must be husbanded against the coming dark, offering players a role focused on communal protection, luminous magic, and the endurance of the flame.
Physical Description
Ember-Kin possess skin the color of burnished bronze, deep obsidian, or weathered copper. Their most striking feature is their eyes, which lack pupils and instead glow with a soft, smoldering orange or white light. In cold environments, a faint vapor rises from their skin as their internal temperature remains naturally high. Their hair is typically metallic or ash-colored, often braided with copper wires to help conduct their inner heat.
Society & Culture
Their culture is defined by the Tenets of the Hearth, a code emphasizing the preservation of energy and the protection of the weak. They operate under a strict meritocracy where leadership is granted to those who can 'kindle the most spirits.' Their social gatherings revolve around the communal fire, where stories are told and warmth is shared physically and spiritually. They view selfishness as a form of coldness, a spiritual sickness that leads to the eventual 'snuffing' of the soul.
Religion & Alignment
The majority of Ember-Kin are Lawful, adhering to the disciplined hierarchies of the Evening Sun. They worship the Sun as a dying deity whose last gifts must be protected. They are often Neutral Good or Lawful Good, though those who focus too much on the purity of the flame can drift into Lawful Neutral dogmatism.
Homelands & Architecture
They reside in massive, open-air stone citadels known as Solar Monasteries. These structures are designed with complex mirror arrays and heliostats that track the sun's path to concentrate light into central braziers. Their architecture uses heat-retaining stones and white marble to reflect the sun's glory, with narrow slits for windows to keep the heat trapped during the cool nights.
Relationships With Other Peoples
Ember-Kin are respected but often viewed as overly somber by shorter-lived species. They find common ground with dwarf-kin due to a shared love of craftsmanship and tradition, and they feel a kinship with elf-like nomads who travel by the celestial cycles. They are wary of those who dwell in the deep dark, viewing subterranean life as a rejection of the world's natural vitality.
