The Sambar-Sim are the undisputed masters of the forest heights, a species of four-armed primates possessing a keen, human-like intellect. Able to weave complex textiles with four hands while dangling from their tails, they treat the vertical world of the canopy as their personal playground. If you seek a character who thrives on three-dimensional movement and mechanical utility, the Sambar-Sim offers a unique perspective from the treetops.
Physical Description
A Sambar-Sim is a striking fusion of human-like proportions and simian grace. Their most notable feature is a second set of smaller, dexterous arms sprouting from the ribcage just below the primary shoulders. Their bodies are covered in a dense but short coat of fur that varies from copper-red to soot-grey, often with lighter patches on the belly and face. Their faces are expressive and human-like, featuring forward-facing eyes of gold or green. A long, powerful, prehensile tail extends from the base of the spine, serving as a reliable fifth limb for stability and interaction.
Society & Culture
Sambar-Sim society is built upon the principle of 'The Tight Grip,' which emphasizes communal stability and mutual support. They live in nomadic troupes or semi-permanent sky-villages. Because they possess four hands, their material culture is highly advanced in areas like weaving, woodcarving, and clockwork. A single artisan can hold a piece of work, two tools, and a magnifying glass all at once. Status is often measured by the complexity of one's knots or the height of one's dwelling. They value oral history, passing down legends of the Great Canopy through rhythmic chants.
Religion & Alignment
Most Sambar-Sim lean toward Neutral or Chaotic Good alignments, valuing individual freedom within a supportive troupe structure. They primarily worship the 'First Climber,' a deity of the sun and the stars who they believe pulled the species up from the forest floor to the safety of the leaves. They view the ground with a healthy suspicion, seeing it as the realm of heavy, slow-moving predators.
Homelands & Architecture
Their homes, known as 'Nest-Spans,' are marvels of architectural engineering suspended between the boles of massive ancient trees. These structures are made of interwoven living branches, silk ropes, and reinforced bark. Because they can climb with ease, their homes lack stairs or ladders, consisting instead of a series of rings and poles that require four limbs to navigate safely. These villages are often hidden by the dense leaf cover, making them nearly invisible to those traveling on the forest floor.
Relationships With Other Peoples
The Sambar-Sim are generally friendly but find other species to be physically 'clumsy' or 'handicapped' due to their lack of extra limbs and tails. They enjoy trading their exquisite textiles and woodcarvings for metal goods, as they rarely maintain ground-based forges. They have a natural kinship with elf-like forest dwellers but find dwarf-like underground cultures to be claustrophobic and strange.
