The Arcanostridar is a singular nightmare of high magic and predatory instinct, a wizard whose upper body remains a man while his lower half has been transfigured into a massive, chitinous spider. He is a boss without peer, commanding a repertoire of sixteen distinct lethal actions that blend the precision of a master mage with the brutal efficiency of a colossal arachnid. At the table, encountering him means navigating a battlefield of sticky webs, arcane disintegrations, and the skittering horror of a genius who has discarded humanity for absolute biological and magical utility.
Physical Description
From the waist up, the Arcanostridar appears as a scholarly man of imposing stature, often draped in tattered silks that suggest a former life of high courtly status. His skin is unnervingly pale, stretched tight over lean muscles that pulse with blue arcane veins. Where his stomach would end, his torso merges seamlessly into the massive, bulbous cephalothorax of a giant spider. His lower body consists of eight hairy, multi-jointed legs tipped with razor-sharp hooks, allowing him to traverse ceilings as easily as floors. His human eyes glow with a cold, multi-faceted violet light, mirroring the smaller, pitch-black spider eyes that dot his lower forehead and the junction of his two bodies.
Society & Culture
As the only one of his kind, the Arcanostridar maintains no society other than the memories of the guild he likely destroyed to achieve this form. He represents a culture of one, a hermit-sovereign who treats the pursuit of forbidden lore as a holy crusade. His internal culture is one of extreme obsession, where every web he spins serves as both a literal trap and a mnemonic device to store complex magical formulae. He considers himself the final evolution of the wizardly craft, viewing two-legged humanoids as structurally deficient and biologically limited.
Religion & Alignment
The Arcanostridar views traditional gods as distant obstacles, preferring to align himself with the cold, mathematical laws of the multiverse. He is Neutral Evil, driven by an insatiable hunger for power and a complete disregard for the 'inferior' lives of those who enter his domain. If he bows to any power, it is the abstract concept of the Great Weaver, the supposed entity that spins the threads of destiny which he seeks to manipulate.
Homelands & Architecture
His home is a 'Webbed Sanctum,' a massive vertical tower where floors are replaced by suspended layers of indestructible silk. The architecture is designed for a climber; bookcases are mounted on the ceiling, and alchemical labs hang from the rafters like cocoons. There is no concept of a stairs or doors, only apertures and silk strands that vibrate with alarms at the slightest touch of an intruder.
Relationships With Other Peoples
To the Arcanostridar, other beings are either annoying trespassers, potential test subjects, or sources of rare components. He might occasionally employ lesser spider-kin or charmed thralls as custodians, but he lacks any genuine empathy. He enjoys debating philosophy with powerful adventurers before consuming them, finding that fear seasons the mind as much as the meat.
