Carrying the dormant spirits of ancient beasts, Feral-Souls are a people in transition from the deep wilds to the flickering lanterns of civilization. They look like robust, weathered humans until their emotions peak or a threat emerges. In that moment, the human mask slips to reveal the claws, fur, and raw power of the predators they once were. For the player who wants to balance a civilized exterior with a savage, supernatural inner beast.
Physical Description
At first glance, a Feral-Soul appears as a sturdy, athletic human with thick hair and eyes that possess an unusual, metallic sheen. Closer inspection reveals subtle tells: slightly elongated canines, nails that are harder and sharper than usual, and a way of moving that suggests a coiled spring. When they call upon their heritage, their features distort. Their pupils narrow to slits, their musculature surges, and patches of coarse fur or thickened skin appear across their limbs, reflecting the specific beast-lineage they carry.
Society & Culture
For millennia, Feral-Souls lived in isolated clans deep within the primal forests, adhering to a code of survival and predator-prey balance. In recent generations, a great Migration of the Heart has seen many move toward city-states. This integration is difficult. They have developed a culture of intense emotional discipline, using meditation and ritual to contain the Beast within during social interactions. They often work as elite scouts, monster hunters, or bodyguards where their keen senses and sudden bursts of power are highly valued.
Religion & Alignment
Feral-Souls generally lean toward Neutral alignments, focusing on the pragmatism of survival. They often revere the Great Ancestor, a nebulous deity representing the first beast to walk like a man. Their religion is less about prayer and more about the perfection of physical form and the honoring of the specific animal spirit that shares their blood.
Homelands & Architecture
In the wilds, they live in 'Living Groves,' which are shelters woven from the branches of ancient trees without harming the wood. In cities, they prefer stone dwellings with high ceilings and open ventilation, often decorating their homes with greenery to ease the stress of urban confinement.
Relationships With Other Peoples
Feral-Souls are often wary of 'tame' species, finding the complex social lies of humans and elves confusing. They get along well with those who live close to the land, such as wood-dwelling goblin-kin or stone-bound folk. Most people treat them with a mix of awe and trepidation, fearful that a single angry outburst might unleash a monster in the middle of a market.
