The Gloamtouched are the lingering echoes of a society that fled into the Shadow Realm to escape a forgotten cataclysm. Now, they are beings of pallid skin and intense emotions, hoarding trinkets and memories to anchor their drifting souls. Whether as gloomy merchants like Vesper the Vulture Thorne or as swift-moving hunters, they utilize their connection to the void to flicker through the battlefield and resist the cold touch of death.
Physical Description
Gloamtouched individuals possess a haunting, monochromatic beauty. Their skin ranges from porcelain white to deep charcoal gray, and their hair is often stark white, raven black, or a dull silver. Their eyes are entirely black or solid gray, lacking distinct pupils. Many adorn themselves with piercings and elaborate silver jewelry, which they believe helps hold their physical forms together in worlds where light is too harsh. They often appear gaunt, with sharp features and a rhythmic, almost silent way of moving.
Society & Culture
Their culture is centered on the preservation of experiences. Because their home plane leeches emotion and color, they pursue extreme sensations and collect physical mementos to remain grounded. They value the concept of the 'Memory Tithe,' where stories are used as currency. Artisans and shopkeepers are highly respected, for they provide the physical anchors (antiques, jewelry, and relics) that keep the Gloamtouched from succumbing to the spiritual lethargy that turns their kin into mindless shadows.
Religion & Alignment
Many follow the Raven Mother or other deities of fate and transition. They lean toward Neutrality, viewing the world through the lens of survival and legacy. While some are grim, others are hedonistic, seeking to experience everything before their time runs out.
Homelands & Architecture
In the Gray Wastes, they build tall, slender towers of dark basalt and iron. In the Material Plane, they gravitate toward ancient cities where history is thick in the air. Their homes are often cluttered with clocks, mirrors, and tapestries, each serving as a reminder of a specific moment or person.
Relationships With Other Peoples
They find elves familiar but perhaps too joyous; they view humans as tragically brief flickers of light. Dwarves are respected for their ability to make lasting things. Others often find the Gloamtouched morbid, though their expertise in soul-magic and rare antiquities makes them indispensable traders.
